Muscle Shoals Sound Studio Tour in Sheffield Alabama

Overview
In 1969 the Swampers founded Muscle Shoals Sound Studio and within months they were attracting hit recording artists from around the world who came to them in search of the signature sound that forever changed American music. Through the generosity of Beats Electronics the legendary studio has been authentically restored. From the vintage equipment in the control room upstairs to the orange carpet in the Swampers' party room downstairs, the building looks exactly as it did during those magical years between 1969 and 1978. Peek into the bathroom where Keith Richards put the finishing touches on Wild Horses or sit at the piano that Paul Simon played on Kodachrome.

This place has been on my Bucket List for years! As a music lover and history of music lover, I felt like a kid in a candy store! I don't even know where to begin! Chase was a great tour guide and knew the building and its rich history well. This place is a former casket shop (and yes it's haunted according to Chase). Cher was the first artist to record here and named her album "3614 Jackson Highway", the address of the studio. Other huge names who recorded here include the Rolling Stones, Rod Stewart, Bob Seger, and Lynyrd Skynyrd to name just a few. From the famous lyrics to Sweet Home Alabama by Lynyrd Skynyrd, "Now Muscle Shoal has got The Swampers, and they've been known to pick a song or two (yes, they do!)" The Swampers were a rhythm section session musicians who recorded back up in the studio. There is also a small but really neat souvenir gift shop that has t-shirts, magnets and other cool items. The cool vibes were everywhere! If these walls could talk...

An engaging and informative presentation gave the background to the evolution and development of this studio and the many famous artists who have recorded there over the years. Having lived through this era ourselves, we found it all fascinating and quite emotional.
