Muscle Shoals Sound Studio Tour in Sheffield Alabama

Overview
In 1969 the Swampers founded Muscle Shoals Sound Studio and within months they were attracting hit recording artists from around the world who came to them in search of the signature sound that forever changed American music. Through the generosity of Beats Electronics the legendary studio has been authentically restored. From the vintage equipment in the control room upstairs to the orange carpet in the Swampers' party room downstairs, the building looks exactly as it did during those magical years between 1969 and 1978. Peek into the bathroom where Keith Richards put the finishing touches on Wild Horses or sit at the piano that Paul Simon played on Kodachrome.

Totally enthralling to visit the home of so many significant recordings and listen to stories surrounding them. Absolutely absorbing. Highly recommended.

We really lucked out here as it was a dreadful day weather-wise and we were the only two people on this particular tour. This meant that we had our outstanding guide all to ourselves which, given his depth of his knowledge and his enthusiasm for the studio was a total privilege. I especially loved seeing the period instruments/equipment and the handwritten musicians notes. Easy to park and loads of great merchandise. Thank you for a wonderful visit.

The Muscle Shoals Sound Studio is where the legendary "Swampers" did their later work after they left Fame Recording. The tour is just plain old great. You get a feeling that this is THE place to be if you are interested in blues/rock, R&B, and southern rock of the late 60's & 70's. Some of the furnishings aren't original, but the layout of the studio and the instruments are. The staff took their time, related great stories about the artists who recorded there. And the artist list is damned impressive. Be sure to hear the story about Sonny Bono's contributions to the record Cher recorded here, and the Keith Richards story about "Wild Horses!"
