What To Expect

American Museum of Natural History

The 33 million objects housed in the museum cover basically all of Earth’s history, so you’ll be lucky to have a knowledgeable guide break it all down for you. Begin with the museum itself as you learn about its story in the majestic Roosevelt Rotunda where you’ll meet the first of many prehistoric creatures on your visit. Your guide will reveal how the dioramas are made as you explore the giant African mammals of the Akeley Hall. Then move towards the dinosaur exhibits where you’ll explore some of the most complete collections of dinosaur skeletons in the world. From the gargantuan Titanosaur to the more familiar T-Rex, you’ll feel like a kid again as you learn their stories. You’ll then move on to hear about the North American Forests, featuring the giant Sequoia, before gazing up at the giant Blue Whale hanging overhead in the Hall of Ocean Life. Visit some American mammals as you learn about the National Parks of the United States. Finally, blast off beyond our orbit in the Rose Center for Earth and Space to feel unbelievably insignificant facing the mysteries of the cosmos. Mark was an engaging, entertaining, and, most importantly, knowledgeable tour guide. It was great to have a private tour as I did not plan well and was running a little late from the Statue of Liberty/Ellis Island tour. It’s wonderful that you provided his cell so I could text him and he was most accommodating.

What a wonderful experience we had with Jonathan! I can’t recommend this enough! My nine year old daughter and I met our guide at the front of the museum and he started off by asking what we might be interested in to help tailor the tour. We then entered through the members only entrance and skipped the considerable line at the front. From the moment we entered the museum. Jonathan regaled us with specific information about the museum and the exhibits that would not have been available to us had we been walking ourselves. He really focused on my daughter and made the experience truly special. All in all, an excellent experience and one we will definitely consider again when I am back to NYC with other family members.

This tour with Mark was worth every penny and then some!! He kept my 14 year old son excited and engaged the entire time, and taught us both so many things about the beautiful mix of art and science that exists in this museum that you would never recognize without him. He beautifully weaves the mystical, macabre and straightforward facts together into captivating stories that make the time just fly by. I have self toured this museum and it can be overwhelming - with Mark we got to focus on the very best and the things we were most interested in because he took cues from us to customize our time. The other really cool thing was that he shared insights beyond just the museum as we walked, and we learned about the history of the city, too. I will absolutely be seeking his tours out again next year when I bring my daughter to NYC!!
