Terrific museum, documenting the history of the city. Really well done. Multi media. Don’t miss the café featuring Amy’s bread. Took us about two hours.

What a wonderful museum. The Stettheimer dolls house exhibition was really interesting and it was lovely to see the house and all the detail that went into creating it. The exhibit on Shirley Chisholm was fantastic - what a roll model and trailblazer that lady was. I loved reading about the history of New York and its native people, the Lanape, as well as how the city has changed and developed since the 18th century. The exhibit on New York and various media projects was very interesting and it was great to see several screens showing a display of various films and shows that have been created in this magical city. The museum is in a beautiful neo-Georgian building, had a very interesting and reasonably priced cafe and the wasn’t too big as to be exhausting or overwhelming. I’d highly recommend! We did go on a Wednesday, which at the time of writing, the museum is free - worth bearing in mind! Book your tickets as close to the date as possible to benefit from this.

I went on a Members tour of the "Art Deco New York" exhibition at the museum before it closed. What was nice was it was a private tour and there were only ten of us with the curator of the exhibition. So we got a real behind scene of the exhibition. Some of the items on the collection was Ron Lauder's private collection of post cards, there was Art Deco architectural items such as the wooden models of Rockefeller Center and a complete collection of outfits from the early 1930's. It was an interesting look at Depression era architecture and how it influenced everything. What was nice was the curator was there to explain everything to us and give us her perspective of the exhibition. This is one of the nice things about being a member are these interesting tours and lectures. It really gives an in-depth look at exhibitions.
