There are also several special exhibitions on view at any one time and the short documentary Timescapes, a multimedia historical storytelling, bringing viewers on a 28 minute journey through 400 years of history. The film runs every 40 minutes and headsets are available in French, Mandarin, and Spanish.

This museum gives first time visitors a fantastic overview of the city of New York as well as providing it's unique history through animation and artifacts. The timescape movie is done very well and is well worth watching. I took my nephew, sister and brother-in-law to the museum, who were visiting from England. They really enjoyed the experience.

Very informative museum and worth a visit. I would recommend watching the half hour ‘timescape’ video prior to seeing the exhibits as it gives a very good overview. I spent the bulk of my time on the first floor on the history of New York. The other exhibits were also very good especially the activist one. There is a nice cafe where you can get sandwiches, coffee, tea and baked goods. There is guest wifi. I spent a total of 2.5 hours there with a lunch break.
