We will also stop at Charlie's Place Historic Site where the greatest names in 20th Century American music performed from the 1930s to the 1960s. The club itself, which had been a popular stop on what was known as the "Chitlin' Circuit," is no longer there, but Charlie's home is along with a reconstruction of his motel that was listed in THE GREEN BOOK, a guide for African-American travelers during segregation.

Seeing Charlie's Place was the best part of the tour. The club itself is gone, but you can see the inside of the motel rooms and the house that he shared with his wife. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable about Myrtle Beach because she was born and raised there. Mary Jane D.

The tour far exceeded our expectations. The tour guide was passionate and knowledgeable about the history of music and movies in Myrtle Beach. Anytime we’ve visited MB in the past 30 years it was always about the beach, golf, and Captain Benjamin’s. We had no inkling about the rich and colorful events that molded the area or all the dimensions that exist apart from the beach. It combined a tour of the “stars” homes and an in depth brush with the “Green Book” era at Charlie’s Place. I would highly recommend this tour for visitors but more importantly for locals who want to know more about the significance of the community they call home. Kudos to our tour guide, Kathryn Hedgepath, for bringing all the stories to life. And to our patient driver who followed our narrator’s cues. A MUST do activity for everyone!

I am thrilled when our history that I care so much about resonates with our guests. Thank you for your kind words. Thanks also for your shout-out to Tom. All of the drivers at Carolina Limousine and Coach are great.
