Myrtle Beach Military History Trolley Tour

Overview
The trolley tour takes guests around the Market Common District in Myrtle Beach that was once the former Myrtle Beach Air Force Base and an Army Air Corps airfield during WWII which also housed a German POW camp. It makes three stops at Warbird Park where military planes are on static display, the Gen. Robert H. Reed Rec. Guests are divided into two groups with each half enjoying a catered reception and historical presentation at Tupelo Honey either before or after the trolley portion of the tour. This tour was recognized by the local county's board of historic preservation. The talk at the reception will be given by a historic figure who helped shape the history of the Myrtle Beach Air Force Base. The trolley is enclosed and climate-controlled. Growing up in Myrtle Beach when the USAF base was an active military installation and being retired AF with 26 years of honorable service, I was very interested in the military history trolley tour. I was impressed with the historical information presented during the tour. Stop offs at War Bird Park getting to touch the AF air planes that served our nation at the former base and observing the redevelopment of the closed base was a highlight of the tour. The tour guide was exceptionally knowledge of the history of the base dating back to WWII and since its reactivation in 1954. I encourage everyone to take advantage of the tour to learn the history of the AF's presence in Myrtle Beach for almost 40 years. Buddy Styers, Colonel, USAF, Ret.
