We booked the Napa Valley Country Wine Tour in conjunction with the Balloons Over the Valley hot air balloon ride and champagne brunch. The wine tour was an add on option to the balloon ride at what we thought was a reasonable price. Since we needed to be transported to Winters, California for our hot air balloon ride (because of the clouds and fog in Napa Valley that day), we literally had to shovel in our breakfast as the driver for the wine tour arrived promptly at 10:00 a.m. and wanted to leave. There were two other persons on our hot air balloon tour that took the wine tour that day, so luckily the driver had to wait a bit for those people as well. (The people from the balloon tour said that the driver was early that day.) As it turned out, our driver, Doug Summers, was not the regular driver for this wine tour. We made two additional stops at hotels and picked up six additional people for our tour. We were in a limo bus and it was good that there were only ten people, as leg room was at a minimum and it would have been quite cozy with peoples legs intermingled and touching each other if all of the seats were filled. We had a really great group of people and we stopped at Domaine Chandon, Robert Mondavi Winery, Pestoni Family Winery, Grgrich Hills Estate Winery and a small shopping complex, which I believe was called V Marketplace. We were allotted approximately an hour at each stop. Our driver told us that there was wine tasting in one of the stores at themarketplace, but when we walked in, there was a rather large sign on the counter stating that there was no wine tasting here. I don't think any of the people on our tour really enjoyed the last stop on the tour as there was no wine tasting. No one on our tour wanted to shop, as four of our group went to a bar and the rest of us kind of hung out and talked. Our driver provided us with a great picnic lunch while we were on the grounds of Pestoni Family Winery. The sandwich and salads were delicious and since we had such a great group of people, it was tons of fun! Be prepared to spend $20 - $45 on average per person for a wine tasting at each winery. We had been to a couple of the wineries prior to this tour, so we just purchased a glass of wine instead of a tasting. Some wineries will not charge for the tasting if you purchase a certain number of bottles of wine. We learned from our driver during the tour that my husband and myself would not be driven to our hotel as our hotel was located in St. Helena and not Napa or Sonoma. We, therefore, left the tour at the marketplace stop in Yountville and incurred a $35 Uber ride back to our hotel. The concierge at our hotel checked in with the people at Balloons Over the Valley and they agreed to revise the written materials describing the added on wine tour to make it clear that there is no transportation back to your hotel in St. Helena. Our hotel was kind enough to cover the $35 Uber charge. We would not have taken this tour had we known we would be left stranded. I would have given this tour an Excellent rating if not for two things. First, our driver told us several very sad stories about his son's mother and her passing after the Napa fires that really brought every down. I guess I could see if it came up in passing once, but he mentioned it more than once, and it was quite sad. Secondly, our driver sent a text message while we were returning from our balloon ride stating that he would be at our pickup at the Oxbow Market at 10:00 a.m. and that we should be prepared to depart upon his arrival. I literally was served my breakfast six minutes prior to 10:00 a.m. and at 10:00 a.m. he was calling and looking for us. (Again, the balloon people said that he was a bit early.) In addition, his text contained the following: "Please be aware that the tasting fees, nor the chauffeur gratuity is included in the purchase price of your daily wine tour. The standard customary industry gratuity for the Napa Valley Daily Wine Tour is 20% of the standard base price (should not reflect any discounts) or $20.00 per person minimum. Your understanding and support are greatly appreciated." Stating a minimum tip is a bit bold in my opinion. The driver was very professional and kind in all other respects.

Glen was our driver for the day. When he picked us up he asked about our favourite wines. He was knowledgeable and interesting and went out of his way to take us to wineries that he thought would interest us. Lunch was delicious and we both had a fantastic day with him. Everywhere we went he knew the background and story of the winery. Couldn’t ask for better.

I booked this private tour for 4 girls to go to Napa. On the fine print it says that you must call and confirm your reservation at least 48 hours in advance, which we did. When we called to confirm, we also found out that our private tour was not private at all. We paid $516 to be thrown into a tour of over 16 people without our knowledge. During the confirmation call, the company said they couldn't do anything to change that even though we were guaranteed a private limo at the time of booking. We then asked why would the driver call us to see what wineries we would like to go to if it wasn't a private tour, the company responded that the driver would not be calling us at all. When we called, it was within 3 days of our actual tour therefore resulting in losing half of our booking fee. I wanted to warn everyone considering booking this deal that you will not have a private tour if you are a small group. I hope that they will update the language in their deal offering so this doesn't happen to anyone else in the future.
