When we were in Naples, Florida the first two weeks of March 2020, we visited Tin City and booked a tour at the little white shack in front of Tin City. The morning we went the sun was shining in full glory. It was very windy on the double decker boat so make sure you take a sweatshirt or jacket with a hood. If you have long hair, tie it up in an elastic and if you have no hair, wear a Tilley hat with a tie string as caps can blow off.
The descriptions provided by the Captain and the Assistant Captain on the upper deck of Double Sunshine was fantastic. Their knowledge of the homes and waterway systems was amazing and very educational. They accepted questions and tried to answer them as best as possible. We struck up a conversation with the Assistant Captain on the upper level. They pointed out dolphins who were at one point swimming alongside the boat as we all ran to capture the moment on our cell phones or cameras. What a thrill to see dolphins in the wild on the Gordon River!
We highly recommend the 1.5 or 2 hour sightseeing cruise. There are liquid refreshments and snack foods on board including wine and beer. There are two washrooms at the back of the boat - one for men and one for ladies. Their knowledge of the history of Naples, the Gordon River system, Wildlife Estuarys/Islands and the beautiful homes on the Gordon River was worth every penny for this trip. At Gordon's Pass where the Gordon River meets the Gulf of Mexico, it was too rough that day to venture out into the Gulf of Mexico. Our boat was rocking from side to side and we agreed the Captain made a good decision not to attempt the waves.
Make sure if you are in Naples, Florida that you check out the Cruise Trips white shack in front of Tin City. It is worth the price and lots of fun. You may even learn something as we feel we learn something new every day.
When your trip out to sea is done, make sure you visit the Riverside or Riverview Restaurant at Tin City. If they don't have what you want on the menu, they will create it for you. Hal didn't want a lobster quesadilla, so they made her a chicken one. to go with her Frozen Lime Margarita. Watch the fishermen clean the fish at table side. Watch the many pelicans fight for a little tidbit of fish. Talk to people on the boardwalk that surrounds this restaurant. We met people from Ottawa and British Columbia. Yeah Canada! Go and Enhoy Yourself. This IS what LIFE is all about before and after the Corona Virus. Think Positive. Stay Safe. Self isolate. Wash your hands all the time. Practice these safety precautions to stay alive.
