Kenai Fjords National Park
In Kenai Fjords National Park, over half of the landmass is covered by the enormous Harding Icefield, a thousand-foot block of ice that dates back to the last Ice Age. The Harding spills out in all directions in the form of glaciers. Some stretch northwest into rugged hills of the Kenai Peninsula. Others—five of them, to be exact—reach as far as the sea along the craggy coast of the Gulf of Alaska.

We took the Kanai Fjords National Part Tour with Dinner on Fox Island 8.5 hour outing on 6/7/18. This was a wonderful day in an amazing place with a highly skilled and knowledgeable captain. We saw lots of sea life and beautiful scenery. We saw many whales, orca, Dalls porpoise, sea lions, eagles and many different species of birds. Our captain was constantly finding and pointing out things to look at and his narration and information was top notch. At one point he put a listening device into the water so we could hear the sounds made by the whales! At another point a whale was close enough to the boat that we could see the bubble ring that they produce to capture food! Remember that this is Alaska and when you get onto the water, no matter what it’s like on land, IT IS COLD on the water, even on a sunny day. I enjoyed this tour so much because I was dressed for it, and could be outside on the decks for a lot of the trip, being a part of nature and truly enjoying what went by. When I went inside, I felt sorry for so many of the people who were hunkered down in their seats by the window all day. Some were actually sleeping. I was glad for my warm clothes that allowed me to be outside in the beautiful nature that we were gliding through. We had the most amazing glacier experience of our 3 week Alaska trip (we saw a lot of glaciers) when our captain maneuvered our boat slowly through a field of icebergs to get close (at a safe distance) to a glacier in a field on ice. Amazing. The lunch that was provided was fine. Dinner of Fox Island was tasty and plentiful. I would have likes a little more time to walk around Fox Island, but this is not a complaint. Overall, this was a wonderful vacation day and worth the money to see this absolutely beautiful place with such a knowledgeable captain. Would highly recommend.

We went on the National Park Tour with Fox Island. Although the tour was fully booked, there was room enough on the boat. And what a day! We did see a lot of wildlife and as a bonus a jumping Orca. Lunch on the boat and dinner on Fox Island were satisfying. Staff was very friendly and our captain Bryan made a whole show of it which was great!

Absolutely stunning scenery, loads of animal viewing, and a decent dinner at Fox Island make this a can't miss adventure. We were lucky to have great weather and the captain and crew ensured we had a an awesome tour. You can notice the effect of global warming on the glaciers and landscape so I would recommend doing this tour sooner than later. Best way to see the park and the fjords.
