Kenai Fjords National Park
In Kenai Fjords National Park, over half of the landmass is covered by the enormous Harding Icefield, a thousand-foot block of ice that dates back to the last Ice Age. The Harding spills out in all directions in the form of glaciers. Some stretch northwest into rugged hills of the Kenai Peninsula. Others—five of them, to be exact—reach as far as the sea along the craggy coast of the Gulf of Alaska.

It was an 8 hours cruise to the National Park with a dinner stop on Fox Island on the return journey. I guessed this must be a popular tour as the ship is almost filled with passengers. Boarding was quick and the crew is very friendly and helpful. Captain Steven was very informative sharing the history of the national park and we were able to have many sightings of orca, humpback whales, otters, sea lions, seals, puffins. At the Ailik glacier we were fortunate enough to witness ice came crushing down a few times. Dinner on fox island was fantastic - we love the prime rib and salmon and the Alaskan king crab legs is a must try - they are so sweet and delicious. It was a very enjoyable day for our family and hope to be back again to explore different parts of the national park on cruise.

Dress warm if you want to sit outside (which has the best views)! The 8-hour tour included a simple lunch, and we ended at an all-you-can-eat salmon dinner on Fox Island where there is a park ranger with passport stamp. The tour operator did a great job of seeking out wildlife, stopping for it, and explaining all about the animals. The views were absolutely stunning! We went all the way to Aialik Glacier, and they fished glacier chunks out of the water for us to touch, pose with, etc. It was an amazing day!!

We did the 8.5 hour trip & it was totally worth it. We had the best captain, he knew exactly where to see orcas, humpback whales, sea lions, otters & harbor seals. When he spotted something he was very patient & stayed there quite awhile. The glacier viewing was amazing as well as dinner on Fox Island. The boat was really comfortable & the staff went out of their way to make sure we had the perfect day. I highly recommend this trip over some of the others.
