We saw the 4th of July fireworks sitting in a kayak on the Chicago River near Navy Pier. You don’t go through the locks; you hang on to a wall and watch. Our trip started while still light out and we got to our spot just before the fireworks started. I highly recommend the 2 person kayak is you haven’t done this before. You paddle for about a mile and you could be sore in a single the next day. The kayaks have colored lights on them so you won’t loose your group. Plenty of guides and felt very safe. Bring water shoes or flip flops. The 2 person kayaks never flip and the 1 persons very rarely do, but your shorts and feet can get wet (and the smell of river water doesn’t come out cloth shoes, apparently). The people who looked over 260 lbs were in the double kayaks.
