I had a great time last week taking a combo bike tour (French Quarter/Garden District), which actually came to be a private tour. Travis (so sorry if I got the name wrong) was an excellent tour guide, providing me with valuable and interesting information about New Orleans, always willing to answer my questions. I definitely learnt new things about the city's history, its architecture and neighbourhoods while cruising in the New Orleans streets. It's the first time I did a bike tour and I'm really glad I had a very positive experience. If you want to learn about the city's history and have fun in the meantime, I totally recommend taking a bike tour with Buzz Nola.

I did the Garden/Quarter Combo tour this past weekend along with three friends. The tour departs at 10:30am and lasts about 3-3.5 hours. When we got to the shop, the staff helped us set up our bikes and provided us with helmets and water. We then embarked on our tour with our guide, Dario shortly after 10:30am. We started by riding over to the Garden District which takes about 15 minutes to bike over to. We then spent some time biking around that area, stopping every so often with insights from Dario. He showed us some very pretty houses and gave us some unique insight into the neighborhood. We then went over to a cemetery and spent some time walking through there. At that time, it began to pour but Dario was quick to offer us ponchos and help us find shelter under a tree. Rain in the summer is a common occurrence and he seemed prepared to battle against it. After the Garden District, we stopped at a local cafe for a snack or a coffee/juice. We then biked over to the French Quarter and spent some time exploring around there. All in all, the tour lasted a little over three hours. Dario did an awesome job on the tour keeping us entertained, educated and safe. There were a couple parts of the tour where you are biking in pretty heavy traffic so just be aware of that. But, for the most part, Dario keeps you on side streets so that the ride doesn't become too stressful. This was my second time in New Orleans so the goal was to see more of the city and learn a little more about the history of New Orleans. Both of these goals were met by this bike tour and I would highly recommend this tour for people looking to see a little more than the bars on Bourbon Street.

We started our New Orleans vacation with the French Quarter/Garden District Combo tour from Buzz NOLA. There were 7 of us, ranging in age from adult to young adult, with one teenager. This was the first tour we took in New Orleans and it really was the perfect way to start our trip. Erin was our guide and led us all around the French Quarter and the Garden District, stopping to give us some interesting and entertaining facts about the places we stopped. She is a wealth of knowledge and gave us a wonderful tour! The only bad part of the tour was that, being on the short side at 5' tall, I had a difficult time starting and stopping, and after we had a bit of a rainstorm, managed to fall over when my feet slipped while stopping at Congo Square. My seat was as low down as it could go, but looking back, I think I probably should have asked for a child sized bike. That is nothing to do with Buzz NOLA, though, just a reminder to make sure you feel totally comfortable before heading out. I loved the garden district and found out on our movie tour that the Buckner Mansion we saw in the Garden District is the place used as the setting for the outdoor shots in Season 3 American Horror Story - Coven. The bikes were very comfortable and even though I rarely ride bike, it wasn't a strenuous ride at all. Erin was truly like a mother duck, keeping a close eye on all of us and stopping if any of us (usually me...haha) got behind. Also, we stopped for a bathroom/snack break halfway through at a place with delicious looking desserts, so if you leave your backpack/bags at the shop, bring some cash along for that!
