View many varieties of whales which include the giant blue whale which is over 90 feet in length, humpback whales, gray whales, finback whales whales, several types of dolphin, seals, and other neat marine life. Just outside of Newport Bay is the beginning of one of the largest marine protected areas in southern California created to protect this rich ecosystem for future generations. The protected marine sanctuary covers over 15 miles and provides a haven for all marine creatures including whales and dolphin. With such amazing habitat for mammals so close to Newport Bay, whale watching cruises of 2-2.5 hours is all that is needed for viewing these giants. Newport Landing offers multiple whale watching cruises daily and with a 96% success rate viewing whales and/or dolphins, almost every trip will have viewing opportunities.

I was so amazed with this experience!!! We first saw a unique hammerheaded looking fish, then from a distance we saw a whole group of dolphins, and then got closer to them, and closer. They were swimming all around the boat and I was able to get the best videos ever. Something I will NEVER forgot. and THEN we saw a whale from a distance. As a dolphin lover though, I was more impressed with them. THANK YOU FOR MAKING this the BEST EXPERIENCE EVER!!!!!!!!!!

We had great fun and learned a lot in a sunny day in mid March. We sighted a pod of 3 grey whales and tracked them for some time, then found another. Spotted some seals and other marine life, plus a harbor seal on return. No dolphins today. The captain and crew are very experienced in locating whales and informative but I should emphasise there are no guaranteed sightings. They matched the online price in the shop so it was about $33 dollars for 2 adults We spent the rest day exploring Balboa Island by ferry $1) and peninsula. Public parking is paid by coin/note/card in the machine and costs the local going rate. A very nice area to visit and exciting day out comes highly recommended to all.
