Overview

For ages 5 and up, this approx 90-min tour is an "overview" tour of scenic Newport.

After boarding our luxurious and comfortable trolley at platform #2 of the Newport Transit Center, your driver starts the tour with a brief history of Colonial-era downtown and explains the Gilded Age history and events that occurred over the centuries.

Then you will experience breath-taking views of scenic Ocean Drive prior to seeing the strip of mansions lining Bellevue Ave. Along the route, movie and TV sets will come to life, such as HBOs The Gilded Age, Hocus Pocus 2, The Great Gatsby, Amistad, True Lies, and a dozen more.

The duration of this tour is 70-90 minutes, depending on traffic conditions
This tour departs promptly at scheduled time. We cannot hold the trolley for stragglers. Please arrive 20 minutes prior to departure. We may sell the seats of passengers who are not on time to others who are waiting on standby
There are no refunds to passengers who arrive late and miss the tour
Our drivers have updated manifests on their smart phones. Cancelled tickets are not accepted for admission
Youth under 17 must be accompanied by an adult
The trolley is not handicapped accessible. Driver may assign seating based on customer's physical needs
There are no longer any covid restrictions. All seats and rows are utilized and face coverings are not required

My mother and I enjoyed this tour together while in port on a cruise. For starters, it appeared by a web search to be a completely comparable tour as a cruise-sponsored shore excursion at half the price. Then our cruise docking process caused us to miss the last tour of the day. While waiting in line to get off the ship, I called the owner-operator of the tour, who assured me it was not our fault we couldn't get off the ship, and not to worry, he would provide tours throughout the afternoon to accommodate everyone who had purchased tickets. He even sent my phone a follow-up text to see how we were doing getting to the meeting place. Such customer service is nearly unheard of anymore! The tour itself was funny, engaging, and insightful. The trolley itself was a pleasant surprise as I was expecting the usual wooden seats but this one had extremely comfortable individual captains chairs. If I find myself in Newport again, I would strongly consider taking the tour again. Thanks so much to Newport Trolley Tour!!!

I was on a cruise..and tried to call from two previous ports (within the given time frame) to cancel. ( No one answered the phone.) Finally got to Newport, called again from ship..and all I could do was leave a message . While I cannot review the excursion, I can say that their phone availability is poor, and I lost my payment.

My husband and I decided the this 90 minute, relaxing tour would be the best way to kick off our first visit to Newport, Rhode Island and we were not disappointed. The trolley bus arrived on time, was clean and comfortable. The 90 minute tour takes you from the heart of the island’s colonial beginnings to the grandeur of the seaside, summer mansions of the Gilded Age. We highly recommend the trolley tour with admissions to The Breakers Mansion. Our tour guide, Carlos, was incredible! He was full of knowledge, humor and very personable. We learned so much from Carlos in an engaging fun way. Absolutely outstanding tour!
