Overview

For ages 5 and up, this approx 90-min tour is an "overview" tour of scenic Newport.

After boarding our luxurious and comfortable trolley at platform #2 of the Newport Transit Center, your driver starts the tour with a brief history of Colonial-era downtown and explains the Gilded Age history and events that occurred over the centuries.

Then you will experience breath-taking views of scenic Ocean Drive prior to seeing the strip of mansions lining Bellevue Ave. Along the route, movie and TV sets will come to life, such as HBOs The Gilded Age, Hocus Pocus 2, The Great Gatsby, Amistad, True Lies, and a dozen more.

Today's happenings are also thoroughly covered such as the best dining spots, boat tours, and other fun activities. Your tour guide will detail the best way to navigate this bustling city as well as explain the Cliff Walk attractions.

The duration of this tour is 70-90 minutes, depending on traffic conditions
This tour departs promptly at scheduled time. We cannot hold the trolley for stragglers. Please arrive 20 minutes prior to departure. We may sell the seats of passengers who are not on time to others who are waiting on standby
There are no refunds to passengers who arrive late and miss the tour
Our drivers have updated manifests on their smart phones. Cancelled tickets are not accepted for admission
Youth under 17 must be accompanied by an adult
The trolley is not handicapped accessible. Driver may assign seating based on customer's physical needs
There are no longer any covid restrictions. All seats and rows are utilized and face coverings are not required

We did the 90 minute trolley tour where you stay on the trolley the whole time & don't go into any of the mansions. It's a nice way to see Newport & hear a lot about it. Our trolley driver and tour guide talked the entire time & gave us so much great information & some recommendations. You meet at the Newport visitor center & when we were there it was so crazy how busy it was. In all of our travels I've never seen such a busy visitors center. I didn't realize we'd have to pay to park. There is a parking garage & it cost us $6.50 for 2 hours. Unless you luck out with street parking you pretty much have to pay to park everywhere in Newport.

Our trolley driver was excellent. He was a young man originally from Brazil, but he had really studied and had an awesome knowledge of Newport history! He spoke to us during the entire trip pointing out things he had found about each site we went by! We thoroughly enjoyed our 90 minute tour with him.

The Tourist Information Center sold us tickets for the next available tour, the 90 minute tour of “The Best of Newport Trolley Tour” and it provided a great introduction to the different sections of Newport. We were on a clean white trolley that offered a smooth ride and the driver was named Carlos. He was knowledgeable about Newport’s history, pleasant, and informative. We learned a lot. The tour gave us a very good overview and we were then better able to decide which places we wanted to explore further on our own. I highly recommend the 90 minute tour. Some of the passengers initially on our trolley had booked the longer 3 hour tour, which included visiting the Breakers mansion. When we reached the Breakers, the driver give them tickets to enter the Breakers, dropped them off at the entrance gate, and told them he would return to pick them up later at the same spot to resume the trolley tour; he also picked up a group of passengers he had dropped off earlier.
