Overview

For ages 5 and up, this approx 90-min tour is an "overview" tour of scenic Newport.

After boarding our luxurious and comfortable trolley at platform #2 of the Newport Transit Center, your driver starts the tour with a brief history of Colonial-era downtown and explains the Gilded Age history and events that occurred over the centuries.

Then you will experience breath-taking views of scenic Ocean Drive prior to seeing the strip of mansions lining Bellevue Ave. Along the route, movie and TV sets will come to life, such as HBOs The Gilded Age, Hocus Pocus 2, The Great Gatsby, Amistad, True Lies, and a dozen more.

Today's happenings are also thoroughly covered such as the best dining spots, boat tours, and other fun activities. Your tour guide will detail the best way to navigate this bustling city as well as explain the Cliff Walk attractions.

The duration of this tour is 70-90 minutes, depending on traffic conditions
This tour departs promptly at scheduled time. We cannot hold the trolley for stragglers. Please arrive 20 minutes prior to departure. We may sell the seats of passengers who are not on time to others who are waiting on standby
There are no refunds to passengers who arrive late and miss the tour
Our drivers have updated manifests on their smart phones. Cancelled tickets are not accepted for admission
Youth under 17 must be accompanied by an adult
The trolley is not handicapped accessible. Driver may assign seating based on customer's physical needs
There are no longer any covid restrictions. All seats and rows are utilized and face coverings are not required

Our ship was late in getting into the harbor and luckily, our trolley driver waited for us. He did a fantastic job of showing us all around Newport and the beautiful summer cottages there.

Our family (2 adults, 2 in college) took the trolley tour on Labor Day weekend as a way to get acquainted with Newport on our first tourist visit. We did enjoy the ride throughout the mansion area and Ocean Drive. The narrative and history were interesting and we learned a great deal. My only complaints is that the trolley doesn't have the best viewing if you are on the wrong side, and it seemed overpriced ($26/person). Recommend taking a morning tour, if you can, to avoid some of the traffic. We did not enter any of the mansions on this trip, so I can't comment on that.

The tour guide was most informative and had a very good sense of humor. Best of all, if it's your first visit to Newport you can get and excellent overview of the town and surrounding area while letting the tour guide deal with traffic. We were able to see most of the gilded age mansions from the trolley and then we selected one for an inside guided tour. The tour last about an hour and a half and is well worth it.
