We live close-by in Warren, RI but hardly ever go to Newport for fun. That all changed a few weeks ago when we were encouraged to try Rhode Island Red Food Tours. It was a perfect weather day in late April not quite knowing what we were in for. We were part of a small group of like-minded people as our hostess Paula and he assistant Paul began the tour. The food at all seven stops was excellent, filled in by appropriate local history out of the streets. We focused on the original center of Newport, off the beaten track of Thames Street, where there were so many early buildings, which we learned about. The food samples were in a good order, ending up at the White Horse Tavern with fried cheesecake egg rolls, the final touch, superb! We were well-fed and well-educated. The hostess and host were excellent, well-prepared and knowledgeable. I would recommend highly!!!

Whether this is your first time to Newport, or your tenth, this food tour is a MUST. Our guide, Paula, was extremely knowledgable about the area and very much attuned to creating a perfect day for us. We hit 7 local establishments and were thrilled with the historical background as well as food suggestions for future visits. As food enthusiasts, we could not believe the amount and quality of food on this tour. We tried things we would never have had on our own and came away with new favorites. We purposely took the tour on our first day in Newport so that we would have an idea of where to eat later in the week end~ so glad we did. We ended up back at two of the restaurants and could not have been more pleased. We will DEFINITELY take this food tour again- Thank you, Paula!

We had a fantastic time Rhode Island Red Food Tours in Newport last weekend. I wasn't sure what to expect other than trying some small portions from different restaraunts around Newport. What it turned out to be was three hours of exquisite bites and a dash of history to spice things up! The portion sizes where much more generous than I anticipated, as we were told we were having a "tasting" at each location and we should expect to leave satisfied but not full. In my estimation, portions were much more than a "taste" and each and every one was delicious! I tried things I don't generally eat and wouldn't think to order for myself and I was pleasantly surprised each time. It's clear that much thought has been given experiencing different flavors, and we got a bit of sweet and a bit of savory so it was a wonderful mix. The history aspect of the tour was served just like the food - bite-sized, delectable, satiating bits of local history. This is a fantastic event for a date night, or with friends. I don't think young children would appreciate it, but there's something from everyone else: historic neighborhoods, amusing and engaging stories, and of course, delicious food! The best part is I have so many places I have to revisit now... Even having frequented Newport establishment, I feel like I'm seeing it anew since this tour and can't wait to return to explore these places further!
