What To Expect

The Breakers

Tour includes Admission to ONE of the following Newport Mansions: The Breakers, The Marble House, or Rosecliff. The Breakers is the grandest of Newport's summer "cottages" and a symbol of the Vanderbilt family's social and financial preeminence in turn of the century America. *As of January 3, 2022 all Preservation Society of Newport Mansions are requiring proof of vaccines for all children aged 5 and up. As of January 15, 2022 all adults must also show proof of their Booster Vaccines. This policy is No Exceptions!

While I enjoyed the tour of the Breakers, the time allotted to this part of the tour was not enough to visit all rooms in the Breakers, or to enjoy the beauty of the grounds. This stop on the tour should be extended one hour. Also, would appreciate more stops to get off the bus and take pictures; such as the church where the Kennedy's were married, the oldest Synagogue in the USA, and several other stops as well.

Thank you for your comments and review. We understand that some passengers can take 2-3 hours at The Breakers while most can enjoy the home in the allotted time as part of our tour. It is a delicate balance on timing between too much and too little. We’ll try harder to look at our timing. Also, unfortunately making multiple stops for photographs would extend the tour out and we also have to abide by City rules as to where a public vehicle can and/or cannot legally stop. Glad you found your tour entertaining!

Our driver/tour guide (unfortunately we don’t remember his name) was polite, well informed, and well spoken. We definitely recommend the tour. Two items that might enhance it. 1-we sat in the back and the PA was difficult to hear over the AC. Maybe you can add some more speakers there. 2-he was using a hand held microphone and would definitely help him if it was a cordless headset type.
