Save your money. We did the day tour and were very disappointed. We paid nearly $150 for a 5 stop tour only to find out they changed it to 4 when we got to the meeting spot. We were advised it was changed because they had problems with the pizza vendor, so they doubled the amount to spend at the dessert spot (more on that later). The tour begins at the Armory on Thames and heads away from the busier wharfs toward the 5th ward. The history part of the tour was good, but be prepared to cover the same ground over again. You’ll spend a good deal of time in a primarily residential setting. The first stop was Harry’s where you can choose a cheeseburger slider or lobster slider. The lobster slider was an extra $3.50 and is not worth buying. Compared to the other lobster rolls you can get in Newport, this one lacked flavor. You also get a palm sized amount of fries- not a handful. Tbh the fries were better than the slider. The next food stop was Winner Winner for a chicken meal. This chicken was by far some of the BEST chicken I’ve ever had. The biscuits were great too. You can choose either white or dark meat as well. A 2 piece meal with a side and biscuit would run you about $12 if you went back on your own. The next food stop was supposed to be a pizza place, but the guide advised they had trouble with the vendor not being prepared and decided not to use them anymore. The dessert stop was next and we were told it was upgraded to make up for the loss of the pizza. I was really, really disappointed when the dessert stop turned out to be Twist ice cream shop which only serves soft serve iced cream from a machine. You can honestly get this from an ice cream truck. I’m sorry but that is a horrible option for a Foodies tour. The upgrade ended up being we could get any size we wanted and it probably cost no more than $5. This was by far the biggest disappointment of the tour. The last food stop is O’Brians for a drink. The cocktail list was mainly tropical stuff and nothing special. I was initially concerned with the social distancing since it’s a group tour. If you want to sit separately to take off your mask and eat, you’ll have to ask because it’s not offered. Overall we probably had about $25 worth of food and the tour is about $75 per person. Save your money and spend it on a nice meal at a good restaurant because I would never consider this to be a Foodies tour/stroll

Thank you for your extensive review of our tour. We work very hard to insure that our guests have a wonderful afternoon, as evidenced by all of the fantastic reviews that our guests were kind enough to submit over the past three years. Thames Street IS Newport, this is where very much of our history lies, while it may feel like you are covering the same ground, we also take you to two famous wharfs, we visit the gardens of one of the mansions and speak extensively about the Gilded Age, we introduce you to the IYRS, an amazing institution, visit many buildings and the most historic house in Newport. Our restaurants offer home-style food which we take pride in and which has been well received. O'Brien's will serve any cocktail requested as well as wine, beer and bourbon. Yes you can visit our restaurants on your own, however, most of our guests tell us that they did not even know anything about our restaurants and most do go back while still in Newport. We are very sorry that you did not enjoy your afternoon with us, but can you actually put a price tag on the experience we offer?

Just did this tour with Tom & it was great! He is very knowledgeable about the area, took us off the beaten (tourist laden) path, and went to places that looked and felt and tasted like they should’ve been featured on Diners Drive-Ins & Dives. One suggestion (& one only): feature at least one seafood joint. Thank you Tom!

This was such a great time! We visit Newport a decent amount so we wanted to change things up and visit some places we may not usually visit. It was great to here a little bit about the history of Newport and the food stops were AWESOME! I would highly recommend. We heard they do a dinner event that we are going to try in the winter time!
