Northern Lights Tours and Lifetime Adventure from Anchorage

Overview
This tour only runs in the winter months from Sept 1st through April 15th. This trip will be focused on the Aurora Borealis aka Northern Lights. It offers some of the most amazing views that Mother Nature offers. There is no disappointments on this trip as you will return home with those ultimate memories and photographs of a lifetime! Our trips are not fast and quick as we love watching the lights too! Expect hours of fun, great conversation and learning how to photography the lights.

For photographing the Northern Lights we highly suggest a DSLR camera with a lens that is capable of at least a f/2.8 18-35mm and a decent tripod for best pictures. The Northern Lights can be photographed with smartphones as well. But know that due to taking a time exposure, your best results will be with a DSLR camera. It can be cold (below zero), so be sure to dress appropriately for the weather conditions and have an extra camera battery. The cold temperatures can drain a battery quickly.

The trip with Scott, the sympathetic guide, was well organized. The conversation during the ride was interesting and he provided food, drinks, covers and even music during the waiting time. However, keep in mind that you should have realistic expectations. During my tour, the view of the lights wasn't as impressive as in the most famous pictures of northern lights (colors, waves, etc.) because it needs a really high Kp index (major geomagnetic storm). But as the Kpi forecast was rather bad for the nights during my stay, I decided to simply give it a try one night. I was able to see some activities in the sky but it was actually all black and grey and during few seconds (The Kp Index was around 4 with some clouds during that night). And as the lights were above our heads it was impossible to take selfies with the lights behind us for instance (as you can see in some seductive advertisements for this kind of tours). The only thing I can recommend is too choose a night where the Kp Index (aurora strenght) is high (more than 5) and the sky is really bright (cloudless). But this kind of situation during the fall and the winter time (period to see the northern lights) can happen only once or maybe twice in a month (good Kpi associated with a good weather): it's quite RARE! So: hopefully there is one night like this during your stay in Alaska. (The guide looks for the clouds radar and will ask you few hours before the tour beginns if you still want to go if there are many clouds. But I think it is also important to know - approximately - the kind of visions you can have considering the level of the Kpi and knowing that the position of the lights is unpredictable because no one tells you this.) Good luck!

Scott took me on tour to see the northern lights. This is definitely the tour guide youā€™re looking for! He does extensive research before hand to determine the likelihood of seeing the northern lights which he explained to before we even left Anchorage. At the sight, the scene changed exactly as he had explained with the clouds eventually clearing up the skies to expose the Milky Way! We waited 4 hours in total - shows his dedication! Because the moon was out the northern lights showed up, but was not bright. At 2:30 we had the brightest sighting which was amazing! Scott took some professional pictures which he shared with me. This trip was definitely worth it. I am very grateful!

Scott took my husband and I out to see the northern lights. It was spectacular. We even saw a shooting star. He was with us every step of the way from driving us out to a remote area, to the research he did prior to make sure we had a great experience, and the chairs/ hot chocolate he had to make sure we felt comfortable. We enjoyed his company so much we had intended on using him for a small photo shoot, but the weather did permit. I would def recommend Scott to anyone and everyone.
