Northern Oregon Coast Day Trip

Overview
This day trip is a customized tour along a section of rugged coastline along Oregon's northern coast. There will be one or two town stops, and multiple stops at headlands and beaches. After your pickup in Portland, we'll discuss the interests of people in the group, and your guide will customize the itinerary to those interests. Regardless of interests, the trip will include driving the Pacific Coast Scenic Byway with a short hike through oldgrowth Sitka spruce forest, beach time, tide pools, sea stacks, viewpoint stops, and a lunch stop in a charming coastal town. If group interest allows, stops with a more technological history focus may be made, such as the Tillamook Air Museum, Tillamook Creamery (currently closed due to COVID-19), or Camp 18.

- Please be prepared for whatever the weather may be when your tour runs
- Wear shoes that you don't mind getting sandy and wet.

*We are the only operator in Portland who has sneeze guards between the rows in our vehicle.*

What To Expect
1
Camp 18 Museum
Here you'll see what fueled the economy of Portland's Golden Age, 1905-1930, at this roadside museum of logging artifacts. You'll also have time to peruse the gift shop.
2
Ecola State Park
Capture a spectacular view of the famous sea stack-studded coastline, featured in movies, and the furthest south that members of the Lewis & Clark expedition ventured.
3
Cannon Beach
You'll have time to explore the galleries, boutique shops, cafes, restaurants, beach, and Haystack Rock.
4
Haystack Rock
Haystock Rock, the most famous sea stack in Oregon, is included as part of a stop at Cannon Beach. You are free to allocate your time among the galleries, boutique shops, cafes, restaurants, beach, and Haystack Rock, as you desire.
5
Hug Point State Park
A mystical beach with sandstone caves, a waterfall, and a 19th Century road carved into the headland.
6
Oswald West State Park
We'll make stops at Short Sands Beach and Neahkahnie Viewpoint while passing through the largest state park on the Oregon Coast.
7
Short Sands Beach
Take an enchanting hike through an oldgrowth forest harboring massive Sitka spruce (Picea sitchensis), western redcedar (Thuja plicata), and Douglas-fir (Pseudotsuga menziessii) to a secluded little beach with a waterfall and filled with surfers in wet suits year-round. This is the legendary Smuggler's Cove, formed by Cape Falcon, where The Goonies pirates are rumored to have landed and buried their treasure.
8
Neahkahnie Mountain
We'll stop at a viewpoint off US 101 on the slopes of Neahkahnie Mountain, overlooking the town of Manzanita and an endless coast of white waves to the south.
9
Tillamook Air Museum
Tillamook is a town for Americana. Here we could stop at the Tillamook Cheese Factory and taste some cheese and observe the process of mass-production cheese making, and/or visit the Tillamook Air Museum, which is housed inside a WWII-era blimp hangar that happens to be the largest clear-span wooden structure in the world.
10
Cape Meares Lighthouse
An 1890s lighthouse. A spectacular view to the south. An 800-year-old Sitka spruce that is the largest in Oregon, and 10th largest spruce in the world.
11
Cape Lookout State Park
The site of a crash by a B-17 Flying Fortress during WWII.
12
Cape Kiwanda State Natural Area
Sculpted sandstone, tidal pools, and the fourth tallest offshore monolith in the world; Cape Kiwanda is one of the most breathtaking spots along the Oregon Coast, and that's saying a lot. You'll also have the opportunity to slalom down the tallest sand dune on the Oregon Coast, at 240 ft (73 m).
13
Neskowin Beach
Spend some time on the magical Neskowin Beach, where you can propose to your lover at Proposal Rock, a tide-dictated island with an arch. At low tide you may even see the Neskowin Ghost Forest, which tells stories of the past.

I had a perfect experience on the coast tour. We hit as many spots as possible - the drive was long but I like being on the road. I forgot my cheese curds from Tillamook on the van and Brittany the guide of the day brought it back to me!

This coast tour is a must if you are in the Portland area. The drive and the locations are stunning; so beautiful. You canā€™t see everything thatā€™s listed in the description because of time but our tour guide Cher did her best. Seeing the Haystack and hanging in Cannon Beach was the best. We could have spent the whole day just there. We were lucky because we were there when the tide was low so we got to see some caves and beautiful rock formations. Cher is a great tour guide and made the trip fun and enjoyable.
