This was my second time, paid the little extra for the VIP entrance. Not sure if it's worth the extra, and it may be too much to pay if you are taking the family, but VIP meant no wait, and a less crowded elevator. That in itself may be worth the extra money since they have a video show on the side walls of the elevator, something you may not enjoy as much in a packed elevator. Once you make the round, taking in the 360 degree views, get a drink in the bar upstairs, sit back, look out, and contemplate, meditate, whatever - there are some bar seats disconnected from bar with spectacular views, but they require a food order. If your stay in NYC is short, going up would not be on top of my priority list, but otherwise, it's kind of a must do.

First of all, the views are spectacular as long as the weather is good. The main reason, of course for going is the views - so remember to bring a pair of binoculars as well. Our ticket came with two extras - a voucher for the shop/cafe and use of an iPad. Niether of these were worth the added price. The iPad seems like a cool way to learn more about the sights and sounds of New York that we could see from up on high. However, the iPads were heavy and the app didn't function very well so I advise against getting one. The voucher is only good for drinks and the shop - NOT for food - which put me off a bit. Additionally, the lines for the coffee bar were long and they were incredibly slow. It took nearly 20 minutes of waiting to get the 5 people in front of us served. Overall, it's definitely worth going as the views are epic. However, if it's not a busy day, skip all the extras. If it's a busy day (lots of othe tourists), get the skip the line tickets just to save some time waiting in lines. You should see the extras they provide as an added bonus.

We pre-booked the inclusive VIP experience which meant we skipped the queue and was given a tablet which we could use while visiting that gave you an insight into all the landmarks that we could see. All we had to do was hold up the tablet and it would show you all the landmarks that you could them select to get audio information. We day we was meant to visit the weather was awful it was raining most of the day and the clouds were so low and when we arrived to start our experience we was told due to the weather it would be a wasted experience as we would not be able to see any of the skyline so recommended we re-booked. It was straight forward; we just took our confirmation to the desk and the lady changed it for two days later when the weather was forecast sunny. On the day we retuned the weather was glorious and the views from the 102nd floor were incredible. The lift was so smooth and played a film of the construction and changes and when we got out, we then watched a short film and at the end the screens just lifted to reveal the stunning view, it was breathtaking. We got to see all the landmarks and spend as much time as we wanted up there which was nice. Included in out ticket prices was $15 pp which could be used towards food or drinks. We tried to get a table in the restaurant but was advised there wasn’t any available, but we could wait. We decided to wait but it seemed to take ages so as soon as we saw there were seats available at the bar we asked if we could sit there. The waitress was happy for us to do this and the good thing was we could also get food at the bar. When we got to the bar we noticed there were many empty unused tables in the restaurant but was advise they wasn’t using them as they were understaffed which I thought was quite bad as there was quite a few people waiting hoping to get some food/drinks. We ordered some drinks and decided to share some chicken wings and fries. I had a wine and my husband had a beer and although the waiter said they did pints clearly, they did not, it was more like half a pint. The chicken wings and fries were both good, presented well and cooked nicely so we really enjoyed them. Due to the prices of everything we decided not to have any more drinks and continues to look around the observatory and take pictures. We asked the waiter for the bill after being able to get his attention as he seemed to be more focused on chatting to his colleague. When he brought the bill, I explained we had a voucher to use which I then gave him. When he had added the voucher he brought a new bill however I wasn’t happy as it should have been $15.00 per person removed, instead he removed $15 from the price of my $16 glass of wone and my husband’s small beer was $12.00 and that’s what he removed so I felt this was unfair and miss-leading when advertising what customers get when booking the VIP experience. Overall, we both enjoyed our visit for the experience and the views. It’s just a shame the bar staff and the misleading vouchers that let us down which is disappointing. I certainly would recommend going though as it is a memorable experience and a must see.
