First, we were notified 1 hour prior to departure that the Clipper ship we booked on the east side of NYC was out of service, needed a new fuel pump.
We were instructed to go to a different marina on the west side of Manhattan to board a schooner. (At some point, they should have acknowledged that this was an inconvenience, but that never happened)
Sail time was supposed to be 3 pm. We were there last 3pm, but they crew was not ready. We watched as they chatted and flirted with each other, ignoring the guests standing fifty feet away.. We watched 2 crew members smoke cigarettes and toss the butts in the in the marina. It was gross, and I think, illegal in NYC. It was a lesson for our 4 young boys on how NOT to behave.
At 3:20 they commenced boarding. The boat was overcrowded and 3 of our party members had to sit on the deck. They gave us a broken life preserver for one of our children. They didn't offer any beverages to the children. It's was not family friendly!
The only time the lead speaker got animated was when she asked for tips at the end. They did the least amount possible. This is the first time we have been so disappointed by Viator's contractors. We always trusted Viator but if this is the new standard, we won't be so loyal in the future.
We had a late start and ended early. Viator puts its reputation at risk with vendors like this motley crew.
