Overview
Explore the world’s largest subway system, the beating heart of the city that never sleeps.

- See the architectural ghosts of the nearly forgotten and partially abandoned, Chambers Street station nicknamed the “Grand Central of Downtown”
- Discover the remnants of Union Square Station as you learn about a hidden art installation thousands of riders walk by everyday
- Use the 6 train as your own time machine as you ride through abandoned subway stations that most seasoned NYC commuters don’t know exist
- Explore the birth of the NYC subway system through amazing archival photos not available to the public
- Learn about the comically short route of the mythical “Subway before the Subway,” Alfred Ely Beach’s Pneumatic Transit System

Guests will need one MetroCard swipe or OMNY tap to enter the subway.

Please note that although you will see abandoned subway stations from the train, the Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA) doesn't grant public access into them under any circumstances.

Local New Yorker here! I take the subway every day, and I wanted to learn more about its history and design. I took a tour with AJ, and it was fantastic! He was informative and passionate about the topic, and I felt I learned so much! I appreciate my commute even more, and now I am always on the lookout for art and history! Definitely recommend it for tourists and locals! It was also my first time seeing the City Hall station!

we did the underground tour and were impressed bij the knowledge of the very friendly tourguide. He started talking and didnt stop until the end of the tour. He really knows a lot! It’s funny that you walk by things you’ve never seen before, but now you will see it every time. Even the next day he recognized us while walking next to central park while he did another tour. So friendly. Definitely a must do tour. I recommend to do this tour when you’ve been traveling in the metro before so you know already a little bit about it.

This was the best NYC walking tour that I've been on. We thoroughly enjoyed every second, the best part of which was our tour guide Mandy Edgecombe's love and enthusiasm for not only NYC, but for learning and teaching others. She was extremely knowledgeable and genuinely interested in sharing the history of the NYC subway. She filled the entire two hours with interesting facts and stories that were so much more than could have been uncovered in a google search or delivered from a script. The individual headset's and multiple visual aide's were a nice touch that added to the experience.
