The guide, AJ, was very good - so knowledgeable and easy to understand. It was great to be able to wear earpieces so we had no problem hearing him talk the whole two hours. He gave tons of history of the subway and the different lines that started it and the construction and people involved. We walked down to different areas of the station and he would show pictures and give more information. We traveled on the subway to different stops to see the neat tilework and hear about the naming of the stations, etc. At the end, he had his flashlight out when we were on the train and shined it on a couple of the “ghost stations”, stations that are no longer used, but you can see the beautiful artwork and platforms as you go by, if you shine the light on them. It was a good tour with lots of great information.

Alexis is extremely knowledgeable about the subway history in New York. This tour is a must for history buffs because she not only tells about the subway system over time but also the social and political culture that played a part in the evolution of mass transit.
