Oak Alley Plantation and Large Airboat Swamp Tour from New Orleans

Overview
The Oak Alley plantation tour is one of the most magnificent plantation tours near New Orleans because of the 28 evenly spaced, huge Oak Trees that go from the river road to the Plantation House. The Greek Revival home dates back to 1837. Located on the grounds is a restaurant, blacksmith shop, Souvenir Shop and antique farm equipment. Next up is an airboat tour - hold onto your hat! Our New Orleans Airboat Swamp Tour is a high speed adventure that is part tour and part ride. Along the way, you will get a personal tour by your local Captain. Our airboats have stadium seating, so that the person in front of you does not obstruct your view. So, every airboat seat is great for experiencing the tour and viewing the wildlife.

Oak Alley Plantation
You will spend approximately 2 hours at the plantation. The house tour will be about 35 minutes in length. The Oak Alley plantation house tour is provided by Plantation tour guides. The remainder of your time will be spent with self-exploration of the grounds. If you use your time wisely, you can grab a sandwich at the gift shop for lunch and still have time to walk the grounds. You'll then be brought to the swamp tour dock for your next adventure.

I'll preface this by saying the overall tour was great and the operators were pleasant however just a few things left me feeling slightly uncomfortable. First, I'm not sure if this is commonplace for tour companies but instead of pulling off and stopping the driver just honked the horn a couple times and then waved us across the street. The streets are narrow so that could have been the reason but it felt very uncomfortable. Then the door didn't close on the bus and we had to drive several blocks with the door open and wait for a new one. Again, I know things happen but that just felt odd. The buss they replaced it with also had something wrong- it almost sounded like a fender was rubbing. It was very loud. The Plantation tour was lovely and the guides were great but there is simply not enough time to see everything. I didn't even stop to read signs and instead just took pictures of them so I could read them later. Do not get the mint julep with the bourbon... I love bourbon but it was just a bit overpowering. The swamp tour was great but again, just not enough time. After being on the bus for an hour plus you didn't even have time to use the restroom before they were calling you. Overall it was a great tour but one that would have been better to self drive.

Plantation portion of tour was okay. The highlight was the airboat swamp tour. Our driver, Bobby was great. We were able to see lots of alligators including "Cool" , a very large gator. Would recommend the swamp tour for sure.

Picked up at my hotel, Oak Alley tour guide was very informative. Mint Julip really hit the spot. Swamp/airboat tour was awesome, guide really knew what he was talking about and got us really good photo ops.
