Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum
This is a self-guided tour. Parking is available around the site in lots and with meters on the street. Be sure to download the App for tours and more information. The Museum is open Monday through Saturday from 9AM to 6PM and on Sunday from noon to 6PM. The Museum is closed Easter, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. The Outdoor Symbolic Memorial is a place of quiet reflection and is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Designed by Butzer Design Partnership, this Memorial honors the victims, survivors, rescuers, and all who were changed forever on April 19, 1995. It encompasses the now-sacred soil where the Murrah Building once stood, as well as the surrounding area devastated during the attack.

The museum was self-guided which I prefer so that I can stay a bit longer and not seem rushed. The layout was fantastic, the LED glass was a great interactive piece that really tied the items we were viewing with why we were there. The interactive exhibit for the water meeting the morning of the tragic event was great too. My teenagers were even engaged, learned something, and humbled by the Spirit of Oklahoma. They left with only two questions, "Were you alive back then?" and "What was it like to see that when it happened?" The museum really had every answer to any question anyone may have on the event and what transpired after. The Memorial outside was beautiful, calming, and a great testament to Oklahoma's spirit and the victims we lost that day. As a history nerd, I highly recommend it. This is one of those places everyone should see at least once.

If you are looking for something to do when visiting OKC or you are a new transplant to the state, I highly recommend a visit to both the museum and the park. Their is no cost to walk through the park, it’s beautiful, serene, moving. To better understand the history, impact and resilience of those impacted and the community, purchase tickets and go through the museum.

The OKC National Memorial Museum is a must see when visiting Oklahoma City. As a native of OKC and former volunteer I recommend that friends and family visit the memorial. You will have questions, unfortunately the volunteer program is not what it used to be, some internal struggles has changed the program. There are many resources you can learn more before and after your visit. The memorial museum charges a fee to visit and tour. If you wish to only visit the grounds this is free of charge. Visiting at sunrise and sunset can be an emotional experience and I often find myself at the brink of tears. For the grounds plan to spend at least an hour. For the museum and grounds plan at least 3. There is a lot to see and process.
