As part of this historical journey, we will stop at three legendary Portland breweries for included samples: Shipyard Brewing Company, Gritty McDuff’s, and Liquid Riot Bottling Company.

What To Expect

Shipyard Brewing Company

Founded in 1994, Shipyard is one the largest breweries in the State of Maine. The legendary partnership of Fred Forsley and Alan Pugsley of Shipyard Brewing, is not one to look past. Starting in Kennebunk as Federal Jack’s Brew Pub, Shipyard made their way to Portland in 1994 after they grew out of their space only a year later. Even now, with new breweries opening up all over Portland, they continue to be a huge player in Portland’s craft beer industry today.

Gritty McDuff's

Maine’s oldest brewpub was founded in 1988 by Ed Stebbins and Richard Pfeffer, two friends who wanted to bring the vibe and the beer of a true British pub to Portland. Gritty’s, as it’s known locally, makes traditional English ales (including “real ales” on cask) that pair great with its classic food selection. At this pub stop, a full lunch of your choice is served with samples of delicious beer.

We had a great time on this tour! We walked to 3 breweries while getting a history lesson of Portland on our way to each brewery. Because of Covid, masks must be worn the whole time(besides when you are drinking). I felt like they did a very respectful job of mandating the pandemic rules while still having a fun time. I would definitely recommend this for beer drinkers and history fans. Also we only walked about 1.5 miles, it was very comfortable.

Hank (I think that was his name... could’ve been Killer) and Shea were awesome! Very cool experience to try breweries that we would have never hit up and learn from people who have such great knowledge of beer making process. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a fun day experience. Keep up the good work!
