Old Port Walk, Talk, and Taste Brewery Tour

Overview
The Portland Pubs Walking Tour is a leisurely 3-stop, 1 mile stroll through Portland’s Old Port neighborhood. This journey through history, narrated by the beverages inspired by Maine’s tenacious spirit, takes you past prominent landmarks and to our working waterfront.

Along the way, you’ll visit producers like Liquid Riot, a brewery and distillery that pays homage to the infamous Portland Rum Riots of 1855, and Shipyard Brewing Company, a cornerstone of Maine’s craft beer culture for over a quarter-century.

This bus tour’s final tasting will be held at Portland Beer Hub, the home of Maine Brews Cruise. Portland Beer Hub is a combo beer bar and retail space in the heart of the Old Port. The selection here includes beers from over 30 breweries across the state of Maine. As a bonus, all guests snag a 10% discount on additional draft and to-go purchases!

Shipyard Brewing Company
Founded in 1994, Shipyard is one the largest breweries in the State of Maine. The legendary partnership of Fred Forsley and Alan Pugsley of Shipyard Brewing, is not one to look past. Starting in Kennebunk as Federal Jack’s Brew Pub, Shipyard made their way to Portland in 1994 after they grew out of their space only a year later. Even now, with new breweries opening up all over Portland, they continue to be a huge player in Portland’s craft beer industry today. What a fun way to tour new and up and coming local breweries with a bus load of fellow craft beer fans. You get personal attention from the owners at each stop who are willing to show you what they do and talk about why they do it. A good chance to get a sampling of many different varieties and such a great showcase for the small business owners you meet.

My wife and I were in town for the first time and had this scheduled for the very first afternoon. We are still talking about how great it was and how happy we are that we did it. Alex and Ryan (tour guide and driver) were great and really interactive and knowledgeable about everything and made the tour even better. At each brewery of the 3 we got about 3 samples a piece and then had time to drink and look at merchandise, etc. before moving on to each new stop. Would totally recommend to anyone looking to learn more about the city history and good spots to do grab some great beer.
