Bottom line: These guys have earned their positive reviews the old-fashioned way. They run a great tour. If you want to get a great look at the local wildlife, narrated by an expert on marine life, from the comfort of a warm tour boat, look no further.
It was a cold day, but sunny and calm. The boat is big enough to fit about 16 people inside the cabin, and has seating for another few on the upper deck. When the boat is running hard, it's crazy cold out in the wind, so the indoor option was nice for transit periods. When we were holding station off rocks loaded with sea lions, seals, or bald eagles, there was plenty of room for every photographer on board to take station on the bow to get their shots. The crew that we had were both skilled mariners, as well as naturalists. As someone who's spent much of my life out on the water, I had no concerns for safe ship handling at any point in the process. Similarly, while people were full of really random questions, it seemed like she had a knowledgeable answer to every single one -- genuinely impressive.
We ended up getting great positions off several rocks loaded with wildlife, though we didn't end up seeing whales -- a little too early in the season to see them regularly. They do "guarantee" whales, so they gave us all vouchers for stand by on any other boat later in the season. Honestly, I was pretty pleased with how the day had gone, and considered the voucher just icing on the cake.
