Over & Under the Rhine Tour

Overview
Over-the-Rhine is a historic neighborhood comprised of amazing structures both above and below the ground. Come and explore with us as we walk (approx. one mile total) and ride the streetcar to major topside landmarks such as Findlay Market, Music Hall, Washington Park, and the location of the Miam-Erie Canal. We'll also learn about it's underground history as we stop by several places from above, including the pre-Prohibition lagering facility of the Lafayette Brewery and Cincinnati's abandoned subway system below Central Parkway. Then we'll go three stories underground, where the Gerke Brewery fermented and cold-stored their beer dating back to the 1850s. This requires guests to traverse a series of steep stairs and is not recommended for young children or those who have difficulty with stairs, but anyone in attendance is welcome to remain topside. Our journey concludes at a local taproom, where we'll have a pint, before returning to the Brewing Heritage Trail Tour Center.

Went on this tour and had an awesome experience! Our tour guide Aaron was very knowledgeable and entertaining. I will be recommending this tour to my friends.

Our tour guide made too many sexual comments and shared his political views way too often. He provided good information and personal antidotes, but the bad out water the good

Hi Brenda, thank you for taking the time to let us know about your disappointment and this is certainly not the experience we want our guests to have while on our tours. This guide is no longer with our organization and I will be issuing you a full refund. I would like to extend an invitation to you and your group for another tour of your choosing at no cost in the future, so please feel free to reach out to me to set something up and I'll also follow up with a phone call. I apologize for this situation and I hope we can have an opportunity in the future to provide you with a great experience. Our number is 513-604-9812 or can be reached at [email protected].

Our experience here was riddled with sexist and inappropriate sexual comments & our guideā€™s (Frank?) political views. Throughout the tour, he made several savior-like comments about the residents in the area and made other remarks referring to healthcare, confederate statues, younger generations, and ā€œdraining the swampā€. This is in addition to the frequent comments about womenā€™s bodies/appearances and being able to see through the clothes flappers wore during their time. To top it all off, towards the end of the tour, he made a unnecessary comment about communism and Biden. We understand that everyone has different political opinions and we respect that. With that being said, we, as tourists, paid for this tour to learn about the history of Cincinnati, and instead weā€™re rewarded with a two-hour lecture about this guyā€™s life story and political views. Nevertheless, the tunnel at the end of the tour was super neat and was a nice chilly break from the hot sun. I would definitely recommend participating in this tour in the Spring or Fall, and with a different tour guide, you may have a completely different and better experience.

I am very sorry you had a bad experience on your tour. We strive to give a positive, educational, and fun tour. Billā€™s comments did not do that and do not reflect the work we are doing to preserve our brewing heritage. This is not a matter we take lightly. Bill has lost his privilege of being a tour guide and will be no longer doing tours for us. We will be refunding your ticket price as a another step in making this right, we would also be happy to host you on another tour of your choosing. Please feel free to contact me directly with any additional comments or concerns. - Steven Hampton, Executive Director [email protected] (513) 604-9812
