Over & Under the Rhine Tour

Overview
Over-the-Rhine is a historic neighborhood comprised of amazing structures both above and below the ground. Come and explore with us as we walk (approx. one mile total) and ride the streetcar to major topside landmarks such as Findlay Market, Music Hall, Washington Park, and the location of the Miam-Erie Canal. We'll also learn about it's underground history as we stop by several places from above, including the pre-Prohibition lagering facility of the Lafayette Brewery and Cincinnati's abandoned subway system below Central Parkway. Then we'll go three stories underground, where the Gerke Brewery fermented and cold-stored their beer dating back to the 1850s. This requires guests to traverse a series of steep stairs and is not recommended for young children or those who have difficulty with stairs, but anyone in attendance is welcome to remain topside. Our journey concludes at a local taproom, where we'll have a pint, before returning to the Brewing Heritage Trail Tour Center.

I just re-read the tour description and do not feel all that is described is really covered. Yes you went by the Music Hall and Market and learned a little about it. I did learn about architecture and the brewery. The guide talked a lot about the breweries if that interests you. Most of the tour I felt I could have seen on line, virtual tour. I do not recommend it because it sure didn't give me all I expected from the description. The tour guide was informative but I was disappointed in the tour. Maybe because I had taken the city tour the previous day and learned so much more. Lots of walking.

Hi Barb, thank you for your feedback and I'm sorry to see that the tour did not meet your expectations. I'll be sure to have a word with your guide to make sure they are covering all of the necessary components of the tour, as this tour does have local beer history on it, but also many other historical components of the neighborhood. Thanks again for your feedback and I'll be sure to look into this issue.

An informative & fun tour! Iā€™m a Cincinnati native, but I still learned a lot about my city. The underground beer cellar from the mid-1800s was definitely the highlight!
