Papalaua Wayside Park
Make your way to palm-fringed Papalaua Beach in west Maui, less than 10 miles (16 km) south of Lahaina town, and meet your experienced kayak guides for a safety briefing. Learn paddling techniques on shore and then settle into a single or double kayak. A guide helps you launch as you take off for the remote shores and sea cliffs in a spectacular coastal area known as ‘the Pali.’ During your 4-hour Maui kayaking tour, paddle toward the Pali lighthouse and enjoy water views of rugged shoreline and jagged cliffs rarely seen by visitors. You'll stop for snacks and refreshments, and spend time snorkeling at a couple of secluded snorkeling sites that boast excellent ocean visibility and include expansive coral reefs teeming with tropical marine life. Then continue paddling along this scenic shoreline where verdant cliffs lead into the water. Your guides point out the diverse flora, showcasing Maui’s natural splendor that hovers over white-sand beaches. This small-group activity, with a paddling distance is approx. 4.0 miles, is best suited for those who are in good physical condition and enjoy a longer paddle.

Once in a lifetime trip and John is what made it so good!! He was very knowledgeable and super fun the entire time!! We saw some incredible whales, turtles, flying fish, butterflies, rare birds, and a variety of fish when we snorkeled. Super memorable experience! We’d definitely book John again!!

Mahalo for the kind reviews. John, just like all our guides, are very knowledgeable when it comes to all things Maui. John, in particular, is a very seasoned guide with well over 20 years on Maui waters. A true Pro!

We were a group of 3: my husband, myself and a friend of Jake, our guide. To start, we were denied the chance to have two kayaks and instead had to get on a double, even though Jake's truck had plenty of kayaks. On arrival, Jake greeted us with a handshake! in the middle of a pandemic. I didn't even have a chance to react when he was already shaking hands with me. He denied me the chance to bring my phone to take photos, even when he had a dry bag to hold it, where he had room for my glasses case, but would not carry my cellphone. Instead he offered to sell me a $65 set of photos, whales included. We got on the kayaks, and Jake's friend was afraid of everything: the kayak, the snorkeling, etc, so we went not very far offshore, not even close to a possibility of seeing whales nearby. We snorkeled at a single spot, where we saw one turtle and few scattered gray fish, and got back to shore. Meantime, Jake said something about the whales call underwater, but I was 12 feet away and didn't hear it, so I missed it. He also mentioned it was OK to remove our life jackets, but I also missed it, and it was clear he couldn't care less. What I did hear well were his misogynist jokes, mocking female clients and mimicking their voices trying to get back on the kayak (never mind his male buddy was freaking out about everything the whole time and affected our experience). On the way back the conversation was about the motorcycles he and his buddy ride, instead of whales, turtles and ocean life. To top the horrendous $179 experience, he: 1) asked us twice for a tip (which we gave), and 2) shared with us that he's not getting vaccinated for covid-19 because he believes he will be injected some micro device to track him (remember the handshake?) There are many other companies and non-profits in Maui for much better experiences than this. Go elsewhere.

Aloha Ivonne...Our apologies that you're outing / guide Jake was not as you expected. You can expect a call from one of our team members soon to personally discus your outing to fully understand what went on. As you can see from our other reviews, this was not a standard day out there. With over 20 years in the service industry, your review is of great concern as we rely on guests like yourself to guide us as to improved service offerings, and a benchmark as to how we are doing. Appreciate the feedback, and expect that call.

Mahalo for the review. The Pali is a really nice area to paddle and offers a nice variety of views and sea life. Jake is a fun and friendly guide who lives the islands and we're lucky to have him with us. See us again, tell your friends. Mahalo
