This is really a glorified Uber experience. We got picked up at the hotel promptly, then we stopped to pick up others. The van was comfortable, but packed. I donāt recall them asking for vaccine cards or negative covid tests.
The guide said nothing on the way to Pearl Harbor and the ride took almost 25 minutes. That is plenty of opportunity to talk about the island, its people, history, economyā¦.anything. But she said nothing.
Then we got dropped off at Pearl Harbor for 2 hrs on our own. The USS Arizona was closed so 2 hours is a bit too long but we enjoyed it.
2 hours later we got back to the van and went to see Aloha Tower which is okay to miss. Again, guide provided 2 sentences on the tower. Boring.
Finally we went to dow town to check out King Kamehameha statue and the palace across the street (going inside is a separate tour), this took 20 mins and the guide was not useful as she provided very little info.
Then they dropped us off at our hotel.
Overall, this was having an Uber for 4 hours. Just take you here and there and honestly, the only place worth seeing is Pearl Harbor.
Iād definitely not recommend. Look for a tour where guide talks while driving. Our guide literally did not say a word while driving 11 of us for at least an hour in the van.
In the end, nobody tipped her, so I almost felt bad.
Skip this tour. You get transportation to Pearl Harbor and back and not much else.

Mahalo for your review. We appreciate your ideas and recommendations. Please read our take on the situation:
1. Van was packed
Our 14 passenger Mercedes vans are indeed comfortable. The day of your tour we had 13 guests, which means the tour was not fully booked.
We would have been happy to take you on a private tour in one of our spacious luxury vehicles. It would just have been your group and the guide on the tour and you would have had the vehicle to yourself and even more space.
2. Asking for vaccine
At the time of your tour you have to be vaccinated or show a negative covid test to even enter the state of Hawaii.
We assume you as a tourist had to go through the same process as everybody else, thatās why we donāt think itās necessary to ask for proof again.
We also ask our guests to wear their masks inside the vehicle - another layer of protection thatās not required, but we want everybody to be safe.
3. Narration on the way to Pearl Harbor
We contacted our guide and asked if she didnāt narrate. She admitted that she didnāt want to talk over the people having a conversation in the front.
Thanks for bringing this up! We trained all our guides again using your review.
As a tour guide it is important to include everybody in the conversation, provide information about Pearl Harbor on the 20 minute ride from Waikiki and to keep people engaged.
We have microphones in our 14 passenger vans and she should have used it to lead the conversation, include everybody and provide information about Pearl Harbor.
4. Boat to USS Arizona not running
Unfortunately the national park service informed us that they are having problems with the boat dock. This happens sometimes - safety first!
Whenever it happens, we call our guests the day prior and allow them to cancel and get a full refund as a courtesy.
Usually Viator / TripAdvisor does not refund cancellations within 24 hours of the tour start. Since we know for some people the boat ride is important, we allow and support these late refunds.
However, even without the boat ride, the tour still takes about 5 hours and we give you more time to explore the very interesting museums at Pearl Harbor National Park.
5. Iāolani palace is a separate tour
Yes, the Iāolani is a museum and they run their own tours. We highly recommend taking the time to visit and explore the only palace in the United States. Itās a wonderful experience.
Recommendation: get a personal tour with one of the Auntyās or uncles! They know all the rumors and little secrets the palace has. So much better than the audio guide.
6. Better than UBER
We are much better than just catching an UBER.
- we are allowed to get you tickets to the boat ride to the USS Arizona (Uber drivers are not)
- We are allowed to walk you into Pearl Harbor national park (Uber drivers are not)
- we are allowed to give an introduction at Pearl Harbor and explain the national park to you, so you make the most out of your time at the park. (Uber drivers are not allowed to do that)
- Our guides are trained and knowledgeable about the attack on Pearl Harbor, the island, the people and recent news (some Uber drivers might know about it, although itās not their job)
- our vehicles are more comfortable than most Uber vehicles (if you donāt like being on a van with others, just book our private tour and you have the van and driver to yourself for 6-7 hours - check it out on DanielsHawaii.com)
7. Only place worth seeing is Pearl Harbor
It is sad you feel Hawaiian history is not important Karen. After all, you are visiting the home of Hawaiians and you Karen probably expect them to share ALOHA.
We all here at DanielsHawaii think the least you can do is show some respect and interest in their culture.
The Hawaiian culture is important to all of us here at DanielsHawaii and we are happy to share it with everybody. Come on tour with us and experience the REAL Hawaii and feel the Aloha.
8. Nobody tipped
Thatās just not true - you were the only one who didnāt tip.
Yes, if you are just looking to get transportation to Pearl Harbor and back, a taxi / Uber is cheaper. If you need it even cheaper try the bus (~$5 round trip). The bus also makes lots of stops ;)
We appreciate your review and hope you have safe travels to whatever place you call home. MUCH ALOHA
