The excursion leader was very high strung, which is ok and we can deal with that, but she was late picking us up then lost the keys to the van and locked us out. After searching for 30 minutes for the keys without success, someone in our party called the number on the van. Rob, the owner, answered and immediately wanted to know how many stops we had made and if we had made it to the gift shop....hello, we are locked out and need to get to our cruise ship. He did come with another set of keys and to make sure we made at least 6 stops pulled in behind a Walmart to show us a "waterfall" - yes it is off the beaten path I suppose.... Rob was very condescending and rude to several passengers, borderline racist to a couple from NY and not once apologized for the issue. He was purely concerned with getting paid for the excursion by covering enough stops. Please don't give your money to him - there are better alternatives. (Except the cookie provided was really good....)

Juligian, "someone" called......? why would you be dishonest about that? It was JULIGIAN... that's you, who called me. Sure I wanted to know where you were as your tour had progressed with Theresa so I would have an understanding of how best to solve the issue and insure that you and the other 8 guests had the best experience possible while receiving full value for the Ketchikan Photo Safari tour that everyone had signed up for..... that's my job. At Potlatch Park we offer several sequential segments to our tour: 1st we serve Gourmet Coffee & Cookies, 2nd we visit the Totem Carving Building, 3rd we visit the Native Clan House, Dug-out Canoe and multiple Totem Displays & 4th we visit the Gift Shop / Museum. Your attitude kept you from providing me this basic information because your purse was locked in the van for 30 minutes? Theresa said it was about 10 minutes! Yes my number is on each van in prominent 8 inch font........it really took you 30 minutes to call me? I arrived at your location in 12 minutes, opened the locked van, transferred all the guests and belongings to my van and headed out. YOU announced that we were headed for your cruise ship and I thanked you (sarcastically) for being in charge of everybody......hello. YOU are not in charge. I quizzed the other guests as to how Theresa had done........ that's part of my job as quality control and ALL (except you) responded with very positive comments. I asked when your ship's "All Aboard!" was and estimated we had time for one more stop, one of my favorites, our waterfall. I invite anyone to check out our photos on our website to see this very nice waterfall. All of the guests EXCEPT Juligian (you stayed in the van to pout) got out of the van and shot the waterfall utilizing some of the photo techniques that Theresa had previously taught. You denigrate this waterfall experience because it is near our Walmart? As far as YOU playing the race/condescending card against me, you may have felt that way because I was in charge NOT you and I let you know that fact. I will let my reputation defend myself. In my previous position, I received the "TOUR GUIDE OF THE YEAR" award from Princess Cruise Lines for 10 years in a row. I did the absolute best job I could to remedy the "lost key" dilemma. I responded promptly and professionally. Sorry I did not follow YOUR script but I had other guests who deserved the full tour........... and you DID arrive back at your cruise ship right on schedule, which FACT disputes your "30 minutes looking for a key" claim. PS Theresa did find her keys near where she had been picking up other people's trash in the totem park. They had fallen out of her shirt pocket.

Sometimes the rain forces you to explore photography in ne and interesting ways. We teach: F-stop, ISO & Shutter-Speed, composition, lighting, etc. We visit 7 to 8 sites & teach tips on: "depth of field, exposure-triangle, pano, macro, etc...+culture, history, industry, ecology, wildlife, art....WOW! this is a great tour even without a camera ;) We always conduct our tours over a set route of 7 or 8 different locations with each location offering unique photo opportunities AND teaching opportunities. Although a majority of our photography instruction is equally applicable to BOTH cell phones, point’n'shoots and DSLR cameras, some of our instruction is specific to DSLR users. Photo techniques taught for BOTH DSLR & cell phone & point’n’shoots include: composition, subject identity, subject proximity, subject balance, exposure, cropping, angle of approach, light compensation, macro photography...& more. Photo techniques specific to DSLR (and some point’n’shoots) include: depth of field, F-stop settings, aperture, ISO settings, exposure triangle, shutter speeds… I’ll post a few comments from recent tour guests (comments from TripAdvisor): Barry- "Capt. Rob Holston is a really good photographer and even though I've been shooting avidly for over 20 years and have been to photography school, he had some excellent tips I found really useful. Excellent tour if you are going to Ketchikan If you are interested in learning something about the place and photography, just do it. You won't be sorry." KK- "I chose this excursion for my photo hobbyist husband, but I ended up enjoying it as much as he did. Every spot Rob took us held superb photo opportunities. This is not a camera class as much as it is a photo op class with instruction on how to make your photos better, along with interesting stories about Ketchikan. We loved it. John- "Great way to see more of Ketchikan through the lens of a local photographer. Captain Rob took our group around many sights, some out of the way, and used his photography experience to help frame and focus views. The three hours went by quickly as we shuttled from location to location. We did not feel rushed, but always were on the move. Plenty of time at each stop to grab some great shots.” I always leave some time for questions (max group size is 9)…….. So IF you have specific questions re your DSLR camera, please ask. I hope this response is helpful to you and we look forward to serving you in the future.
