Great trip from the boat captain, our naturalist Marine who was funny full of energy and very knowledgeable to the bus drivers who gave us a history and overview of Juneau. The whale watch boat was top notch and the crew put us on lots of whales. After whale watching they dusted us to the Mendenhall Glacier which we toured at our own speed. Then hopped one of their buses back to the tram and walked back to our ship This worth the money and we ended making a full day of it.

This was a great day! The tour was an EXC Tour while on a Holland America Alaskan cruise. It included the Mendenhall Glacier, dinner at Orca Point Lodge and whale watching. The bus was on time, as was the boat to take us to dinner and search for whales. The Glacier/Visitor Center were great. Dinner at Orca Point Lodge was a buffet, but the food was outstanding. And the whale watching was spectacular. The captain knew exactly where to go to see whales (we saw about a half dozen) and each boat has a naturalist who was very informative. So much so, that they can identify individual whales and know how they are going to act. This made for some very close (but safe) viewing. If you get the opportunity, take this tour.

When we got to the visitor center the bus driver warned us that one of the trails was 45 minutes to walk and you would probably miss the bus, so all that was left were two really short trails and then too much dead time just waiting for the bus. The longer trail was the best - took you right up to a huge impressive waterfall. Once we realized that, we were already 10 minutes in. We are fast walkers and could have done it so this trip was a bummer. No bears, not much for other trails to walk. Then the whale watching was good - they made sure we saw whales but it lasts a long time with no free food. Be prepared to buy junk food to hold you over until you get back to the pier at 9:00 pm!
