Arrival timing and tardiness of a group of asian visitors cut badly into our available time to visit the Mendenhall glacier, but by rushing and speed walking I could get round the short photo-points walk, see the glacier and get back to the bus in time to make it to the whale-watching boat for that part of the excursion. The skipper (LAUREN) was extremely skillful and knowledgeable about the whales themselves and where they would be, and the on-bard naturalist (AARON) was equally helpful and informative. All in all we got pretty close to several whales and understood how they worked, why they were here now, their dive routines, their identification characteristics etc.
This was a professionally executed tour in a boat purposefully built to offer plenty of clear viewing and photo-ops, and with rest-room facilities and a small galley offering hot chocolate, coffee and soft drinks - and plenty of smiles all round....
