We were placed on a small boat that held about 20 people. Our Captain and Mate worked hard to locate whales but the problem with this experience was the small size of the boat. There was a small observation area on the bow and another aft. It wasn't possible for everyone to be in a observation area so those of us who are older and move more slowly had no chance to get to either observation area and those who did make it limited the view of those remaining inside. It made the entire experience a bit disappointing and is the reason for the 3 star rating. Allowing participants to state a preference for type of vessel would be an improvement.

I think I am in love with our boat captain, T. Super cute and made a point to get us out where we could see whalesā€¦and we saw Orcas on our cruise which was FANTASTIC! (although rare from what we were told). His mate was also very friendly and helpful, that part of the excursion was great. The rest, not so much. I had to ask at the cruise ship terminal where to go, etc, and the employee working the dock was super sarcastic about it. Our shuttle driver to the whale watch was great and very informative (long time Juneau resident), but the guy who took us to the glacier was a little strange, and then the guy who took us from the glacier back to the cruise terminal was a complete nutcase. I seriously thought he was high and his driving was terrible. Would I book with the company again? Yes based on my experience on the boat part but I am hoping someone reads this and does something about the customer service for the port employees, and takes a serious look at some of the shuttle drivers and how they are communicating with guests.

This was our favorite excursion from our Alaskan cruise, and well worth the money! The boat is set up perfectly for everyone being able to view and photograph the whales during any type of weather. Captain Mitch and guide Michael were both very knowledgeable and gave us a lot of info on our way out to the whale watching portion of the trip. Michael gave us photography tips and suggestions, and was available for individual help. Captain Mitch stayed a safe distance from the whales while bringing us close enough for great viewing; it was an awesome experience. I like that they are flexible with their time and schedule, as there was a lot of whale activity on the day of our tour. While that gave us a shorter tour of the glacier, we felt the trade off was well worth seeing the whales. (Including Flame and her calf Cinder) The bus to and from the dock was clean and the drivers were friendly and informative. The snack they provided was quite filling and good.
