Premier Whale Watch and Mendenhall Glacier Combo

Overview
Join us for Whale Watching in our cool Alaskan waters and then view one of 38 glaciers from the Juneau Ice Fields - the spectacular Mendenhall Glacier. We guide you on a 2 hour whale watching tour, spotting Humpback whales and other wildlife. Then off to the Mendenhall Glacier to spend some time hiking, watching fish spawn at Steep Creek or enjoy an outstanding view from the Visitor Center. If you are in Juneau all day - you can take advantage of our flexible Glacier Shuttle to get back to town. If you arrive in the afternoon expect to get 90 minutes at the park. But don't worry! That is the perfect amount of time to walk to nugget falls and take in the displays at the visitor center.

We had a wonderful day with Krichelle. She is passionate about her life as guide and very knowledgeable about wildlife and nature. She will someday be on National Geographic. As for seeing whales yes, but with the grey skies they were hard to spot. We did get a few tail shows and one close up on the surface. Captain Fred did his best to get us close. Another young man at the Pier working for Gastinuea helped me rescue the pink rain coat I left at THe Red Dog Saloon. I wrote his name down now I can't find the paper. Very good company.

Not worth the $$$$. So Iā€™ll be brief to explain why...bus ride was great and informative. Bus logistics in/out of dock area horrendous (=wasted time). Boat ride to/from whales long, but fun if you like boat rides. We saw whales...briefly come up for air and some tail activity...about 1-2 miles away. You will not have large mammals breach, in the air, right in front of you...as some telephoto lens pictures depict. Travel time to whales 1 hour...watching whales 15 minutes. Young guides were informative and cheerful (sometimes a little too goofy) but obviously worked for tips and ratings. By the time we got to the self-guided glacier, we had 50 minutes to quickly hike a short trail and snap some pics. We DID see a black bear up close...like really close...on a trail, but that hardly constitutes credit to the tour. Skip whale watching and go straight to the glacier...all day! I got better whale pics from the balcony of my cruise ship.
