Where to begin? Our tour exceeded every expectation we had. Laura, our guide, did an amazing job of taking us off the beaten path to get a wide range of experiences. We saw herds of bison, groups of pronghorn, elk, otters, an eagle, and even a coyote chasing (and catching, we believe) a deer across a field. One could expect to see these things on a "wildlife tour," of course, but it was everything else that really made this day memorable. Laura is the O.G. at Eco Tours, and her knowledge and experience was, frankly, incredible. The day was filled with stories and information spanning all of the "ologies" - biology, ecology, geology, ornithology, etymology - as well as history of the geography and figures central to the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem and past and current conservation efforts. Everywhere we turned she had another factoid about the land, why a certain tree grew somewhere, what people used this or that plant for, why bears are found on one face of a hill while elk are on the other, how to tell one hawk from another, etc. She was funny, personable, and informative. I strongly suggest taking her up on the option to get out of the car and walk a little. We spent much of the day driving to areas away from the typical tourist spots and taking short little hikes (maybe 0.5 mile) until we found ourselves in the middle of nature without another human in sight. I feel so lucky to have met and spent time with Laura, and if we ever make it out there again she will be the first person to whom I reach out. I'm sure their other guides are great - the reviews speak for themselves - but our day with Laura was the gleaming highlight of an already spectacular vacation. I cannot recommend her strongly enough.
