Private Buckskin Gulch Tour

Overview
There are as many metaphors to describe what locals call 'down in the Buckskin' as there are people who have been there. I choose the word 'in' because you are literally inside the walls of the world's longest slot canyon.

According to the Bureau of Land Management ('BLM') website, Buckskin Gulch is 16 miles long (around 26 km) from the Buckskin Trailhead to the Paria Canyon and over 500 feet (around 150m) deep at its confluence with the Paria River. There are places in the Buckskin where you are able to touch both canyon walls at the same time.

Buckskin Gulch is a photographer's and hiker's Mecca. Every corner you turn is changing continuously; the cliffs are water-and-wind-sculpted patterns of colors, light and shadows. You may also marvel and puzzle at the meanings of the rock writings (petroglyphs) from the early Archaic period (some are as old as 9,000 years).

It was voted one the top 10 hikes in the world by National Geographic Adventure Magazine a few years back.

the entire experience was amazing from the moment we were picked up and driven to the trailhead. Perfect. The hike itself was very tough as we took the Middle Route to descend which entails climbing down the sheer rockface! On the way the guide BRAND, was excellent! he pointed out the vegetation uniqueness, some Indian pottery and flint peices that were in the ground, helped with pictures and generally looked after our safety!!

My girls and I booked this trip back in January but due to a flash flood the night before our trip, buckskin and wire pass were closed. Our guide, Brand, asked us if we wanted to go the middle route instead. We said yes, not knowing it was a class 3 & 4 hike. It was incredible. Brand talked to us about all the history and showed us petroglyphs along the way. We had to go down a very steep descent into the gulch and being afraid of heights, I was terrified. Brand was so patient and helped me navigate down and back up. The gulch had water in it due to the flash flood but that made it even more incredible. Brand was a fantastic guide and I would request him again and recommend him to anyone needing a guide.

Brand was an awesome guide! He was patient, knowledgeable, and pointed out many interesting things along the way. The descent was scary, but you will have a real sense of accomplishment afterward. It was so nice to enjoy the beauty of the gulch with no crowds. We only saw one group passing through the entire time.
