I took four kids (ages 7-15) on a tour through Photo Safari Yosemite. We had a great outing with a mix of history, sights, and tips on how to get the most out of a new DSLR.

Vivian and I had a wonderful experience in Yosemite due in large measure to the two-day association with Pat Althizer. We had told Pat that we wished to obtain a feel for the essence of the park in the limited time which we had available. Pat planned a day of ā€˜sightseeingā€™ during which we saw many of the parkā€™s well-known sites. Vivian was pleased that Pat was able to show her how to use some features of the iPhone camera which she employs to record images of her travels. On the second day, the fellows used their DSLRā€™s on a true photo safari which started in the Nelder Grove of magnificent Sequoiaā€™s and ended with a breath-taking sunset viewed from the top of Sentinel Dome. Along the way, Pat showed me how to effectively use a graduated neutral density filter to balance the light come from the bright sky with the lesser light intensity reflected from the rocks and trees. Pat documented our experience with photos which he took and sent to us via email before we arrived back home. We enjoyed Patā€™s congenial personality, knowledge of the location and guide expertise. Highly recommended!

I researched quite a few tour companies and options and chose Photo Safari Yosemite Day Tours for a number of reasons. I really liked the idea of having a personalized experience rather than being in a large group. I am not a great photographer and don't aspire to be one but do want to learn to take better photos. As a life long learner being able to tour and learn was very appealing. Having a private guide also mean someone else did the driving. There is so much to look at and the driver really can't be a tourist. It was a welcome break for my husband to be a passenger and get to look out the window. Pat was easy to be around, friendly and full of stories. As an introvert, I sometimes get overwhelmed by people and Pat was a great balance of stories for my husband and photography tips for me. He also took photos of us at every stop making for additions to our travel photo album. We stopped at some of the typical tourist stops but Pat knew exactly where to stand to get the best shot. We also stopped at locations only a local photographer would know making the pictures extra special and not something everyone would have. We stayed at the Evergreen Lodge and there were trips we could have selected from that provider but chose Pat because of his experience and all the reviews. It was worth every penny and I would not hesitate to hire him again.
