First, the boat ride was right on time (going and returning) and the pre-trip communication from Island Head was excellent. Also, our golf cart was satisfactory and we really enjoyed touring Daufuskie Island. We ate at Daufuskie Crab Co and the food was quite good, although many drinks on the menu were not available because we were not in season. One issue...the boat we had was very small and totally open. We had 12 -15 people going both ways and that was capacity (I'm not a boater but doubt the boat was more than 30 foot). We expected more of a ferry, with inside seating as an option. The day we went was generally sunny but only 60 degrees (or less) and had about a 20 MPH steady wind. Coming back we were into the wind and the captain announced as we left the Daufuskie Island dock that he needed to go fast to stay on top of the waves. It was a little unnerving being on the open ocean in such a small boat with all that wind and waves. It was quite bumpy. An announcement was made going over to Daufuskie Island regarding life jackets (they are stored under the sides of the boat in latched cabinets), but if we had a major problem it would have been difficult/impossible to reach the life jackets. In my opinion life jackets should have been required to be worn on the way back, since the captain obviously knew the conditions. The life jackets were not mentioned at all prior to leaving the dock for the return trip. Battling a 40 MPH wind in an open boat (20 MPH wind speed plus assume the boat was going at least 20 MPH) on a 60 degree day was very cold with no place to go for protection. In the end I feel like using such a small boat on the open ocean on such a windy day with choppy seas is a recipe for future disaster. A much bigger boat with the company's logo on it was in the Broad Creek marina. It looked like a ferry and had inside seating. That boat should have been used on such a rough day.

We were here on a girls’ trip and wanted a private sunset cruise. This was awesome! Michael was an excellent captain - full of lots of local knowledge and our one request was to find dolphins and he found lots for us. We brought wine, beer and snacks on board and watched an amazing sunset. This was well worth the cost - we would highly recommend Island Head and this private cruise.
