Our amazing guide Rose knew the park as well as the animals, where to find them in numbers and at the perfect time of day. Buffalo, elk, free-range donkeys ... even the coyotes and marmots co-operated. The degree of difficulty for the hikes was up to us and Rose, an avid walker herself, catered them to our ability. She also had some surprise stops that highlight the region's amazing geological features, which were a perfect sidebar to both the magnificent creatures we encountered and the rich history of the native population, Custer and his original expedition. A bonus was visiting a couple of lodges in the park, including Calvin Coolidge's 'summer White House'.
