What To Expect

River Ventures

After checking in at the tour center you will watch a brief video about the manatees, go over the rules of swimming and how to interact in a manner that is fun for both you and the manatees. You are then fitted for a wetsuit to prepare you for your snorkeling adventure. Your guides will photograph the highlights of your entire manatee swim tour from start to finish, both above and below the water. Upon returning to the tour center, a high-resolution picture CD containing images from your manatee tour will be available for you to purchase if desired.

For a full refund, cancel at least 24 hours before the scheduled departure time.

We reserved a private tour, which was nice because we were the only ones on the boat. Our guide Ryan was super knowledgeable and very nice and Captain Shellie also provided lots of local information. The place we actually swam with the manatees was fairly crowded with other swimmers also wanting to see the manatees but there are a limited number of places you can go I was extremely fortunate to have a very close interaction with one manatee! He took an interest in my hair which was floating in the water and was really up close to my mask so I could really see him. He also rolled over on his tummy. It was really an incredible experience. Both Ryan and Shellie are top notch and River Ventures is a well run organization.

Really loved our manatee experience. Lis and Sal were excellent, friendly and very knowledgeable about the area and all of the wildlife within it. We had a group with various levels of water confidence and Lis made sure we were taken care of as much as possible and made sure we all had a great time. Could not recommend them more!

I can’t say enough good about this company. We booked a private charter for four people and it was an amazing experience. The education that we received along with the fun in-water and the jokes that the guides provided were well worth the price. Also, I will note they make you feel extremely comfortable. I am a big guy and not once did I feel I was ever a burden on the staff. I was worried about boat capacity and the like but they made me feel totally like I belonged. I plan on going at least once a year. It is definitely worth your time and money if you are anywhere near Crystal River.
