Bring sturdy shoes with traction for uneven surfaces, preferably all-in-one shoes for getting wet and crossing waterfall streams

Our family was fortunate to have Terrence as our tour guide. He is GREAT with ALL ages and takes safety and fun equally seriously. He connected both with our shy 11 -year-old and our more adventurous 14-year-old. It added so much to the experience that Terrence seemed to be having as much fun as we were, fully participating in all activities. His enthusiasm even inspired this 47-year-old mom to rock jump in front of a waterfall! He always checked in, to make sure we were doing the activities most important to us, but we realized quickly that he knew best and we didn't want to miss out on anything he wanted to show us. There's a learning curve with driving on Maui, most especially on the Road to Hana. Not taking on that responsibility is well worth it so you can relax, take in the scenery, and be completely present with your family. Maui is filled with adventure and learning for the whole family, if you do it right. Highly recommend this experience and be sure to ask for Terrence!

We had a great time on our private Road to Hana tour with Terrence. He was kind, informative, helpful, and accommodating - particularly when my son had trouble with the twists and turns of the road. We saw so many beautiful things and appreciate so much Terrence's willingness to tailor the tour to our needs/wants! Our 2-day tour to the road to Hana was amazing! Our tour guide Demian was equally amazing. After doing some research we had a list of what we wanted to do. Demian took that list, customized it and added some “must do’s”. It was the best part of our trip to Maui. If you have it in the budget, the 2 day tour is a must. Even though we had to rent a room in Hana it was well worth the expense. Had we gone to Hana and back in one day it would have been rushed, exhausting and we would have not seen all that we did see. With the 2 day we covered a lot at a great pace and we were able to do the “whole loop” seeing the incredible views on the way back on a different road. Had we just done one day, we probably would have missed that and gone back the way we came to cover more things. In addition, with 2 days we did some awesome stuff in Hana itself and had an incredible dinner there as well. I highly recommend Makana Maui Adventures and Demian! It definitely surpassed our expectations.
