What To Expect

Hawaii Volcanoes National Park

Get the most out of your visit to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, a World UNESCO Heritage Site. To see most of the major sites in HVNP takes 3 hours. You will see: calderas, pit craters, lava trees, lava river, fissures, splatter ramparts, steam vents, lava tube and more. If you would prefer to see less of the Park and visit other stops along the way to the Park you are welcome to do so.

Nahuku - Thurston Lava Tube

With us you will actually learn how the lava tube formed and see some of the interesting remnants from the previous lava flows.

Chain of Craters Road

See some past eruptions in the National Park and unique lava formations.

Steam Vents

Get a blast of steam from natural geothermal vents in the earth.

Rainbow Falls

Visit the most southern waterfall on the Big Island and find out why the Big Island has such few waterfalls.

Hilo

See a black sand beach in Hilo and learn how they are created.

We travelled as a family of ten on the Pride of America cruise. We booked this private tour wanting a more personal experience. The entire day from start to finish was fabulous. Skylar was great, very knowledgeable, professional and friendly. He made sure that the entire family had enough time to enjoy the sites, and timed everything perfectly to ensure we made it back to port on time. Highly, highly, recommend.

Today's tour was truly amazing. I doubt there is a more knowledgeable guide for the volcanic National Park than Jodi. She was engaging, entertaining, and very personable, going above and beyond to ensure we had a fantastic experience. I highly recommend her to everyone and will definitely be passing on her name to my friends and travel agent. I am eagerly looking forward to seeing her again in the future. Our trip to Hawaii was a gift to celebrate many different events all at once (wedding anniversary, graduation from college, 30th and 60th birthdays), so we wanted to make every day special. Touring with Big Island VIP definitely made our day in Hilo and Volcanoes National Park extremely special. The four of us were cruising on the NCL Pride of America and had one day in Hilo, and we wanted to make the most of our time at the Park. We were originally going to rent a car and try to see the park on our own, but decided that we would be able to learn more with a guide. Rob picked us up at the pier early, and we were able to beat the crowds to the main tour spots, as well as go to locations in the park that not many people get to see. There is so much to see and do in the park, and we definitely appreciated Rob taking us to so many wonderful places. My husband was especially fascinated and had a wonderful dialogue with Rob about everything we saw throughout the entire day. The tour is enhanced by videos in the van explaining what we were about to see - the history of the volcanoes, the different types of lava, and the various eruptions that have occurred over the years. Rob is an encyclopedia of information, and it is evident how much he loves the island and sharing it with people. A bonus was that pictures were taken throughout the day, and shared with us after the tour. We all had a wonderful day (and had an equally wonderful day in Kona, for we booked a tour with Rob the next day as well)!
