This is our third time and the charm we could say. We had a private tour with another couple and our guide is very gracious and accommodating to show us around. This place is not only rich of historical events and culture but also an unforgotten love story between President Washington and his wife Martha. This house one the best kept secret in Mt. Vernon. It's glory and glamour will live forever. I suggest that you come early morning about 10am to get a good parking space and ahead of big crowds and school children.

The grounds are so beautiful here to see as it sits atop the Potomac. The mansion is under restoration as we visited, but being done well so that it doesn't really interfere with the tour and seeing everything there is to see. The rooms are stunning and amazing to see how they lived and to know that Washington lived here. Walking the plantation was very neat too to see it as it was and still is to this day. Make sure you don't miss the tomb. Several from our group did and ended up circling back around. It is neat to see. Be prepared to walk though, it is a large plantation.

This was an absolutely stellar tour. When you have someone as friendly, well-informed and articulate as Karen Menatti you are insured a memorable tour. Karen was also able to answer any questions we had. We left wishing we had more time to learn about other aspects of the estate and the Washingtons. We felt we knew much more about George Washington, the farmer and land owner, and about Martha Washington, the hostess and household manager. Thank you for offering such a wonderful learning experience.
