The private tour of Kaua'i with Elena was definitely one of highlights of our visit. It started off with a bit of a snafu where there was some confusion about the pick-up location and we had to connect through our travel agent (who fortunately was available despite the time difference) calling us even though we provided our cell number to Kauai Island Shuttle. Okay ... so not the greatest start but that was all in the past once we got going … Elena is a long-time resident of Kaua'i and had a lot of great information to share about her island. She was great with the kids (especially our younger daughter) and made this a very enjoyable experience for all of us. There were several stops along the way and she always gave us a heads-up on whether we were interested. Waimea Canyon was obviously the highlight but the most memorable stop was at Pu’u O Kila Lookout. There was really nothing to see but fog when we got there but Elena told us to just be patient. So we waited 10-15 minute and the most amazing view slowly unfolded when the wind cleared the clouds. I guess this was a bit of a gamble on her end as she admitted that there are times when things do not clear up! This kind of private tour is really the best way to explore Kaua'i. There is no annoying other member in the party and things are very tailored to what you want to do. Thanks Elena for an amazing day exploring your home!

Our guide was John. He was very knowledgeable and entertaining. We didn't think we wanted the full tour, but went anyway. We were so amazed at all the things we saw and learned about. The day just flew by. He took us to the best vantage points for pictures, etc. Took routes that the tour buses can't take. We ate authentic bbq food for lunch. He took us to some excellent shops for souvenirs. Saw a monk seal and sea turtles. A real delight was the spouting horn. Loved the Poipu beach area. Our time ran over, but he didn't rush us. Everything exceeded our expectations and was the highlight of our trip. Don't miss this one.
